To be fair, ANH wasn't the most original film to begin with and rehashing material others have done before seems to be something Abrams loves to do. I just hope it surprises me, probably the last new film I will see this year other than Joy.

Yep true true.

I just think (like I said), right now people are too engaged in the hype machine, but once everything calms down this issue may become more obvious and more of an issue. We all recall how this happened with the prequels hehe.

It ain't perfect but it's up there as my 2nd or 3rd favourite SW film. The acting from top to bottom is the best of the entire series. Six fantastic lead performances from Ridley, Boyega, Driver, Ford, Fisher and Hamill. Ok so maybe only the first four were leads, but man, pitch perfect acting. I don't think it's much of a rehash of A New Hope in as much as, yeah, it's The Hero's Journey again, there's a desert planet at the beginning, and a similar climax, but it's still so different in many ways.

I think the only thing I'd want to know is....
[Show spoiler]Will Kylo Ren live to see Episode VIII? I mean the last thing we want is another Darth Maul. Awesome but 1-and-done.

Going tomorrow.

Nobody mentioned Phasma. Does she have something to do or is she just standing there?

Not going to believe this, but it looks like everyone's fears are revealed, including the fate of what happens to Han Solo, who Kylo Ren's parents are, why Han and Leia separated and more:

[Show spoiler]Turns out, there is a major plot development. Han Solo and Leia separated after their son, Kylo Ren, turned to the dark side. Sometime during the last half of the movie, Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren where he's considering abandoning the Dark Side when he turns on Han Solo and mows him down with a lightsaber. Leia feels Han's death through the force.

There is a map that Kylo Ren is after, he's torturing Rey to get the map from her mind (which she inadvertently saw) and she's able to stop Kylo Ren from doing so (due to her strong connection to the force).

Near the end of the film, Chewbacca, C3PO and Rey find Luke Skywalker, who is living on a remote mountain island, where she hands the lightsaber in her possession to Luke.

Spoiler info/questions:

[Show spoiler]
1. Seeing those two Raid dudes were awesome. Hopefully we see them fight in next films. I guess they work for the new Jabba the Hutt - forgot what his name was - Country Club or something.
2. I literally shouted "****" when credits came - in a good way but upset that we got so little of Luke and him not talking. Now we have to wait two god-damn more years to really see Luke in action?
3. Kylo Ren was quite awesome and hopefully they dont kill him off. I would rather see him redeem himself then get punished.
4. Hux was way better than I expected - very nazi-ish!
5. Happy to see a giant Sith although Snoke looks a bit too cgi-ish.
6. Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8 were the shit! Amazing!
7. The humor was perfect - the stuff between Finn/BB-8 (flame thumbs up) were gold, and Han and Solo were excellent too!
8. I wonder how Chewie is going to evolve. Interesting how he's been consistent yet still two-dimensional in all these films. I was hoping for a bit more emotional reaction from Leah and Chewie but I think we got that in the powerful non-verbal moment between Rey and Luke.
9. All the side aliens in Jakku and that temple were quite awesome. Not sure about Lupito's character. It would have been nice not to have any cgi characters in this film - Snoke and Lupito Yoda.
10. The most emotionally powerful scenes were Finn as a Stormtrooper - quite original that they went this route. Great stuff with Phasma too.
11. If Rey is Luke's daughter, then who's the mom going to be? Hopefully not Phasma, ha!! Too many connections.
12. The one X-wing pilot with a beard - loved him - he looked like a Star Wars fanboy, ha!

If you must know...

[Show spoiler]She goes down like a *****. Has maybe 2 minutes of screen time total, you literally see most of her in the trailers.

[Show spoiler]
1) I couldn't be the only one who expected someone's hand to be cut off during that final duel
2) I was so disappointed when I thought they were going to end off with Rey and Chewie biding goodbye to the Resistance without even showing Luke. Thankful that was not the case.
3) General Hux's speech and the final duel. EASILY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SCENES

While the action was pretty sweet, you know it's a good movie when all the non-action or quiet scenes are pretty awesome too!

[Show spoiler]She doesn't go down like a *****, she sasses them when they have her hostage and tells them they're dumb asses for trying what they do (even though they obviously get it done because they're the good guys). It's not like she's cowering from Finn being all "Who's the boss now" at her, lol.

At least she doesn't get Boba Fett-ed in RotJ, now that's going down like a *****. Clearly she's one of my favourites, and while I could've done with a lot more of her, she was pretty cool to me.

As for General Hux,
[Show spoiler]I found that speech he gave a bit OTT, especially with the voice affectation he was using during it. Plus he seemed like a real kiss ass to Snoke while narking on Kylo Ren and just overall. He was ok but they went a bit overboard with the Nazi stuff imo (not that they've been subtle in the past, though). I'll probably be seeing it again tomorrow to really remember what he did, but he was all right. Clearly the calm and calculated foil for Kylo Ren's more explosive and unstable character.

I just
[Show spoiler]Laughed when Chewie tackled her down. I'm being facetitious I was just disappointed that she had such a minor role given how much they've hyped her up, but plenty of time for more in 8.

While not the same moment for other people, this was my "Boba Fett/Darth Maul" holy crap moment:

[Show spoiler]
The first appearance of Indonesian action stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian. I would have loved to have been in a Indonesia movie theater during that scene - probably a lot of cheers.

Absolutely. It was really weird though. There was this huge line outside the cinema, but then there was no one in there watching the chipmunks with me. What's up with that? They must have all just been there for the popcorn.

[Show spoiler]Anyway, what a strange film. Have to see it a few times before I really judge it. After all, it's weird having a Star Wars film that you've only seen once.
I really liked a lot about it. And I'm glad that the spoiler that was the name of articles on the internet that I simply couldn't avoid turned out not to be true. I thought we might have another Kahn situation on our hands, but it wasn't so. And what twists there were, I was like, wow!
It was funny having JJ Abrams style in a SW film too. Although, it feels like he got bored of himself. There was all this lens flare, shaky cam and modern humour at the start, but it got really Star Warsy by the end.
But, most odd of all; did anyone feel this was just a remake of the original film? Replace some characters, places and names and you have the same film. The plans in the droid, the secret weapon, the farm kid turned Jedi, cantina, death of a legend, the attack on the weapon. It's all there.
Very fun though. Maybe 8/10, though my opinion may change.

[Show spoiler]Heh, fair enough. I remember one of my friends asked me how many people she f***s up and I had a laugh to myself and had to tell her none. They have hyped her up quite a bit for how little screentime she actually had, fingers crossed she's in some deleted scenes or something, and she definitely needs more screentime in future movies, because she has potential imo.

I still really enjoy her though, I have the 3.75" and Toys R Us exclusive figures, as well as her Funko Pop and want to get a poster of her as well, and being that her merch is hard to get because it sells so fast proves that people will want to see her more in the future, so hopefully they deliver on that. At least we know she made it out of the trash compactor somehow.
