Hopefully they aren't like sand people, and won't be back in greater numbers... We're gonna need a bigger ban-hammer...

Would that troll by any chance be Bluyoda?

I really should have tried to catch this movie as soon as it came out. It's been spoiled for me five times over and I've even seen screenshots. The Internet sucks sometimes.

Incidentally, that would interest me more than Star Wars.

Even if so let him have his fun. If your life is so empty that using multiple personalities as a means of rating movies poorly is how you get by, then I'm not going to begrudge you.

He basically came up with a new generation of siblings however they were much younger in his version, they were young teenagers like 13 or 14 years old. Disney didn't want to go down that same road and make the same mistake as Phantom Menace by having young kids in the lead roles so they altered it to what it is now with the main people in their early 20's, much like the original trilogy. (And I'm thankful for that)

Lucas even asked Mark Hamill in the early 80's if he would be interested in playing an Obi Wan Kenobi type character in Episode VII and train a new generation of Jedi. I also heard him talk decades ago about Luke having a daughter who was good and Han/Leia having a son who has joined the Dark Side and that would be the next trilogy...

So it's nothing new really...and to be honest, it was always going to be the story at least for EP 7 - 9...beyond that is anyone's guess...
Nobody in the production said anything about Lucas' version with teenagers. His version has the children in their 20's. And Luke and Leia were 19 in A New Hope.

George Lucas Speaks on "The Force Awakens" - YouTube
That interview is recent and well after he sold Lucasfilm. His story for having teenagers was written before he sold Lucasfilm and it was actually a way for him to get more money from the sale. JJ Abrams spoke of his idea's and why they were scrapped

I think it is one of the worst written movies I have watched. But still entertaining in a shallow action movie way.

I guess if you're going to build a giant space station the size of a planet it's going to end up being shaped like a planet. Also, every new car that comes out is car shaped, maybe that's the established space station shape. Or maybe there's only one architect left and they're pretty lazy.

I might be alone in not really enjoying much of what Solo said or did. He just seemed to know the answer to everything and was really slow -
[Show spoiler] he shouldn't have lasted as long as he did
. I really like his relationship with Chewie - it seemed much more equal than before.

I didn't miss
[Show spoiler]whiney Luke
at all.

I understand the need for the
[Show spoiler]"Wilson face"
but I found it was quite clumsily done.

Finn tended to looked confused at everything.

I must have missed how
[Show spoiler]Poe had the exact piece of the map missing from Artoo's map
and why it existed in the first place.

I miss the Fox fanfare

Loved Rey, though.

I'm hoping they
[Show spoiler]go and get help from Lando
in the next film.

[Show spoiler]Right at the beginning of the film! Poe Dameron obtains the map or partial map from Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow) and then places it inside BB-8.

I thought that the
[Show spoiler]map had been pieced together during Leias attempts to track down her brother, (as told in the opening crawl) and that the map so far was more a list of possible sightings of Luke that were being put together like a giant dot-to-dot picture puzzle. This last piece bieng the final dot, and that we were picking up Poe's story after he had been on many such missions to recover pieces to the map.

Of course it's just a McGuffin so there really doesn't need to be any logical reason for it other than to drive the plot

Maybe Luke did eventually want to be found, and he purposely made a map and hid the pieces so that it would take someone special to finally find him? Maybe this was his plan all along, a final test maybe?

I totally messed up my post. I was trying to answer the guy above me. For some reason the quote tags were omitted and it looks like I questioned myself...

Agree with everything you said though, spot on.

It's the last time I make a post from my phone. I swear.

There's always been more story, whether Disney Star Wars or not. George Lucas created it, and made the films, but for me Star Wars has always been so much bigger than those films. I've had years of knowing what happened after Jedi. So now, it's fun to not know again. To say their story was done at 6 though is just wrong.

Red face Almost good, but not a Star Wars movie or a well told story, just like JJ always does

SPOILERS mostly

First I'm 45 and saw SW5 and 6 in the cinema. I only saw SW 4 much later and found it luch less entertaining.
This movie is entertaining as a family science fiction movie. The action (starfighter especially) are nothing special, not much intensity, and mostly chaotic as lots of things are going on but not centered on someone or a ship, just things passing through. Most characters are good, but Finn is often annoying
[Show spoiler] (the terrible scene with the captured commander where he goes gangsta is painful) ; Rey feels great, standing out, with both human feelings and courage, but not overshadowing the others. Poe should have replaced Finn as main male character as he's more fun. For the "evil" characters, Jaycen/Kylo Ren, looks like an emo, behaves like an emo, and fights like an emo. Snokes is decent as a character, but the CGI are just pathetic, it doesn't feel organic (OK it's a hologram, but with very precise detail and some color), I thought it was taken from a 1990s video game. The silver commander ... wtf? she doesn't even try to resist or lie or buy time.
Now as A Star Wars amateur, there's many porblems. Mostly using so much of the SW4 story ... Damn there's so many plot elements there ... Some reminders OK, but just so similar is pretty stupid. The "universe" is solid, with ETs, spaceships, an evil empire, the resistance, heroes, laser pistols and lightsabers ... No problem there. The returning characters are real good.
JJ Abrams still doesn't know how to advance the plot of a story, using "magic elements" (like R2D2 having the map, an old guy having the map piece) that are just there with no explanation or logic, secondary characters that lack personality because they're just secondary (the silver commander, the shop owner, the scavenger ... don't even remember others) and it makes the universe bland and generic. Some scenes are dragging, like when the 2 criminal faction talk to Solo, it's just boring and they don't feel dangerous or annoyed enough, Rey climbing the stairs in the end is so painfully long too. And too many "this happens for no reason but it helps the story", like when Rey "accidentally" opens the rathars cages - just making Rey, a strong force user, totally have no intuition this time. The "Republic" word is used but it's also totally bland as nothing more is developed. Even the "resistance" is quite under developed and generic.

So JJ Abrams has once again turned a licensed loved by millions of fans into a generic movie with no soul.
