Not me. I don't agree with every Georgie has done, but I can certainly say this:

George Lucas has given me much more than he's taken away...and for that I thank him!
Me too! I just don't know what to think of this. I'm almost kind of numb. I saw the first Star Wars when I was 7 years old, and it's always been a huge landmark in my life. It just seems weird that Lucas will no longer own Lucasfilm.

Are they really planning on pumping out a new Star Wars movie every couple of years from now on? That just doesn't seem right to me. I still just don't know what to think about this.

I forgot about that. You know its coming, too.

Maybe they get a director who does not go for gimmicks and just focuses story.

Saw the headline on another site. My jaw dropped. I don't know what to make of this. Whether this is good or bad, I can't decide.

EXACTLY! As soon as Disney does anything with the franchise, you'll read tons of wailing and crying about how Disney is destroying the great George Lucas' work. We'll read how Disney is destroying their childhood! I bet we even read about how Disney "destroys" Jar Jar.

This could go either way. Disney has done great things and Disney has done lousy things. You have to wonder whether they really want the movies or whether they really just want to make the movies as a path to sell merchandise and create new ride attractions, etc.

I didn't think John Carter was as bad as most people made out, but for those who think it was terrible, a new Star Wars could be another John Carter - over budgeted and under-delivered.

I also wonder whether this would have happened if Steve Jobs was still alive. Jobs actually owned a majority of Disney shares as a result of selling Pixar to them. I believe Jobs' widow sits on Disney's Board, so if I'm correct, she would have had to of approved this.

The one thing that probably will happen now is that the Star Wars canon will diverge because I bet the films are not going to match the books (not that I've ever read any beyond the jacket copy). But there are some interesting things that happen there. I'm sure there are others on this Board who know far more about this than I do, but in the books, doesn't Han's son become a Sith or a villain or something?

I've always thought that Episode VII should be about Luke's guilt about Vader being his father and how he gets persecuted by the planets that he tried to save. Maybe the movie starts when Luke is 50 or so after he's released from prison or some kind of space purgatory. Maybe as a result he lives alone on a dusty planet the same way that Obi-wan did and he becomes a master to a new pupil when the galaxy is again threatened. (But maybe they're threatened by a xenomorph.........only kidding!)

I think the bigger issue is what Disney decides to do with the Raiders franchise.

Also, I have to wonder what drove Lucas to sell. He obviously didn't need the money. But on the other hand, it was doubtful he was going to make another Star Wars movie and maybe never make another movie at all, since the reception to Red Tails was very weak. And if he didn't sell, there could have been chaos when he leaves this world. But I'm surprised he was willing to give up control. Because I bet Disney would have done a deal where he still had control of the characters and scripts until he was gone. I wonder if his ex gets some of this money.

I saw Jim Henson do the same thing 20 plus years ago and probably figured "who else but Disney?" since he always considered Star Wars as kids stories anyway (even if again the Internet fanboys disagre). My only concern, Disney is no longer the "old Disney" (I know some here hold them in high regard but the company is no longer what it was) and they could just destroy this till it's dry. However if they set it up like they do with Marvel, put a good guy on top of it and let them run the show, this could give us some nice movies in the coming years....The Old Republic anyone?
Lucas could have passed the empire to his family.

Because Disney don't make anything other than cute musicals? Star Wars, at its heart, is pure childish escapism, which is something Disney do VERY well (they've practically made a living out of that idea). Look at it this way -- they can't do more wrong with it than Lucas did with some of his ideas.

That happened ages ago. That's why there's levels of canon.

The only official canon is the movies. I believe the CN Clone Wars movie/toons are also Lucas official canon.

And then the one Darth Sidious Novel from a while ago also says right on the dust jacket that it's official canon.

Everything else is layers of canon. The books and comics are B-Class Canon and so on.

I just hope this sale does not result in cancellation of "The Clone Wars" since it is on a competing station.

Not exactly. He's said in interviews that he didn't want his kids to coast by on the profits of Star Wars.

That's why he's always encouraged them in other things. The only one who has anything really to do with Star Wars is the one daughter.

And that's because she chooses to write for the Clone Wars. Not because she's getting a free ride on the money.

Yes, the Clone Wars are canon, there is a website somewhere that describes the layers of canon for the Star Wars universe, but the movies and the Clone Wars trump everything else
