Maybe they passed up Fassbender because he would steal the show. His performances in Prometheus and 12 years a slave were masterful at worst.

well, they did say it would be similar to a darth vader persona, so a no-name in this instance makes sense? especially if he's going to be covered up in a mask or something

Just read through the last 20 pages of this thread. Some interesting discussion as well as some interesting observations.

Everyone is hoping for a good film but it's easy to see that a few posters in this thread will be disappointed. They already seem to be and yet filming hasn't begun.

Yes too much acting skill.

His inclusion would bring down everyone else

I just re-read the article and it doesn't really mean anything. As far as I know, the deal is still ongoing, and Driver might just be a secondary villain. The "in the vein of Darth Vader" has to be complete BS, since you can't recreate a character as iconic as him.

I'm going to imagine Fassbender is in it as a younger, cloned version of Palpatine.

I think Adam Driver is an interesting choice, in a positive way. The guy has a strong and rather unique charisma. And he could use it in a good or evil way ... Smart casting, imo. Good choice.

who knows. you figure things have to be finalized/announced soon since they'll start production, but there's no set date or anything for revealing the news.

That's possible, because Fassy has to film that Assassins Creed film in a few months.

I spent so much time on the web scouring for every bit of information before each of the prequels released that I feel I ruined it for myself as I established an unrelenting negative opinion before they even hit theaters. Granted that the prequels are mediocre at best and there's no excuse for the wooden acting and wooden storytelling, I probably would have been more forgiving if I would have at least let myself be surprised instead of scrutinizing every minute of each film with a pre-established opinion. This time I'm going to wait for the final product to prevent any bad ideas from festering.
