About what I expected. If the OT were released today they'd probably be PG-13 as well, or at least I'm pretty sure the first two would be.

I was negative 11 when the Shining came out. It's one of my favorites.

Rock on my man. Rock on.

My friends and I called my mom at her law office, asked her if it were OK if we went to see it at the mall. She said yes. The three of us got a ride out there, got in line, and asked the older lady (probably in retrospect about 40) in front of us if she would buy us tickets. She agreed. We went in, and we left very, VERY afraid.

My money says it's a fake. Some guy thought it would be funny to post on social media saying he did that.. or rather the girl posted about him. Either she is gullible or in on the joke.

There is only one ticket visible in the picture, the rest of the stack could simply be unprinted ticket paper. It wouldn't be that hard to get ahold of that paper for an employee of the theater. And, as one person pointed out, if you do the math the theater he bought out for the reported amount would be tiny.. somewhere around 200 seats.

1) No one in their right mind would do this
2) No theater would allow this
3) No real evidence is shown that he is telling the truth

==== FAKE
Or he might have bought out a small theater to take everyone at his company to it. $2000 is not a lot to pay for a big employee party, especially if a few of the big bosses are fans.

Whatever it is, if the tkts are real then its probly some kind of group event/work party/etc. The original post doesnt could be anyone saying anything.

I recall somebody some years ago doing a similar premiere screening buyout for some movie, with the intention of scalping every single one of the tickets. IIRC, he ended up getting severely burned when nobody bought them. May have even tried to get a refund.

I'm still convinced that's what this guy is really doing: scalping.

Scalping doesn't work that way though. Every theater in every town will be playing Star Wars. Scalping needs scarcity to work. One show/game/concert in a town. No one is going to pay him $20 for a $10 ticket for a Friday show when they can pay $10 to see it Sunday morning instead.

The movie you're thinking about is Joss Whedon's Firefly movie, Serenity. The guy didn't scalp them. He was a big Whedon Firefly fan who wanted more Firefly, and when the film didn't do all that great the first weekend, he bought out a screening and then went to hand out the tickets, hoping that this would be a great way to build word of mouth.

I think you underestimate the power of the force. Trust me tickets to see the premiere have been going for insane prices.

I plan on seeing this opening day first session when I doubt there will be a full cinema as people would mostly be at work

I'm seeing it twice on Thursday, opening night. And then again on Sunday morning in IMAX 3D.

No, it was definitely a guy who bought out a premiere screening for scalping, and not Serenity. I remember the Interview story quoted by Dotpattern, though I could swear something like it happened a number of years earlier too.

And I remember the Serenity story, too. We had a good laugh about it when the movie came out back in the day. Apparently people do indeed do silly things like buying out whole screenings.

It ain't no marathon if you don't include the two Ewoks movies, the Clone Wars movie, and the Holiday Special - which I have all on DVD!

Gotta throw in the animated Droids, Ewoks, The Clone Wars, and Rebels, too! And the YouTube videos of the Star Tours rides. And all the making of documentaries and bonus features. And don't sleep.
