...this isn't serious, right?

You, young man, were addressing the fact that the film has a PG13 rating attached with sarcasm. I was commenting on the fact that TFA is only the second Star Wars film to be rated with the same, and how it took another major Hollywood blockbuster film to convince George Lucas to abandon his PG-marked entries in the series and go for a higher rating. That's all.

Oh, ok. I think this would be more surprising to me of every blockbuster out for the last 5 years weren't all PG-13 and that all of Abrams films have been PG-13. I guess I'm just not seeing the news story or significants here.

Thanks for the education though.

Seriously, if it wasn't for the mega-success of Spiderman 2, then Lucas would have cut back on the intensity of Sith to garner a PG rating in the US. There is nothing in the Star Wars films that pushes boundaries, including bad language, which apparently Lucas was vehemently against in all of his SW films.

I don't know. Anakin being burnt alive may have gotten the PG-13 on it's own.

The 'Immolation Scene' was the primary cause for concern for Lucas, and the main focus of his PG/PG13-cuts of the film originally. The fact that Lucasfilm 2015 have given free reign to Abrams to deliver a PG13 Star Wars film means there will be parents who won't take their very young children to see it, which LF must be comfortable with.

How the original trilogy would be rated today:

A New Hope: PG-13
- smoky charred skeleton bodies
- bloody alien arm chopped off
- Sith force strangulations with bone crunching sound
- incest kiss

Empire Strikes Back: PG-13
- bloody animal arm chopped off
- Sith force strangulations
- Darth Vader "Luke" head decapitated
- Luke's hand chopped off
- incest kiss

Return of the Jedi: PG

PG and PG-13 is almost the same thing these days. Things like the Indiana Jones films, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and the Marvel univerese films, which are family aimed type films, have all received PG-13 ratings. If parents are worried, they might screen it first, but I doubt most families won't take their kids to the movie because it's PG-13.

That's most peculiar, i'm trying to imagine some father taking his 8 year old son to see Fast And Furious 6. F-Bomb and all, or similar. Here we have the 12A rating which has flexibility, but not total parental control, with cinema's still able to refuse under 10's to the same with accompanied adult.

Everyone knows what Star Wars is. I think the number of parents that opt not to go see the new film because of a PG-13 rating will be negligible.

We got our reserved seats in a Regal Dolby ATMOS RPX theater for the 9:00am showing on the 18th! A couple of our friends are taking a personal day off work to join us. Much to my amazement, the seats EXACTLY where we'd normally choose to sit were available. And just four of them together. All of the rest of the seats around that spot were already taken. It's as if someone was holding them specifically for us!

NOW THEY ARE OURS!

Mark

Spider-Man 2 was released in summer 2004, by which point Revenge of the Sith had already been shot.

Every Marvel Studios movie to date has been PG-13 and parents take their little kids to those in droves.

My nephew is 4 and he's been seeing Marvel films as far back as I can remember, parents know the PG-13 rating doesn't mean kids can't see it.

This is the laser projector that was installed a few weeks ago at the Santikos Palladium...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=anre2V59TAQ

This bad boy will be used for both the Star Wars marathon and The Force Awakens...The theater is also an Atmos/large screen AVX theater, which should be fun for SW7. 17 days and I'll be watching Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens projected by lasers.

Did anyone catch the Tonight Show tonight?
Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote music for TFA's version of the cantina scene. No John Williams.

If it's a cantina scene then it's probably diegetic music (music that the characters can hear), and not part of the actual score.
