Not sure why the prequels get so much hate. I think they are amazing.

Not true. Critic screenings start on the 14th. LucasFilm did not submit the film for early awards consideration because they didn't want to produce screeners that surely would have been pirated.

I hope I'm wrong....

They didn't even screen it for awards consideration, as was mentioned above. It's about maintains the film's secrets. There's no need to worry.

As for the marathon viewers seeing it early, that's not true either. I'm going to one of the marathons and I'm seeing it on the 17th.

Mine starts at 1am. I don't think anyone is seeing it on the 16th in the marathons. Considering I'm seeing mine at the Disney owned theater, who had the MCU marathon and showed Age of Ultron early, if any fans got to see it early, it would be this one. But they're making sure everyone stateside, outside of going to the premiere, will be seeing it day of release on the 17th.

The UK debut is the 16th, I don't know if they're doing Marathon screenings over there.

The El Capitan is one of my favorite theaters in the world. Saw many special screenings there in my time in L.A....Tron, Swiss Family Robinson, 20,000 Leagues, Mary Poppins, Alice Comedies hosted by Leonard Maltin with Virginia Davis and the Mighty Wurlitzer...

I only meant stateside, since I know you and I are both over here.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the El Cap. I've seen so many great revival screenings, my favorite being the 20th anniversary of The Rocketeer, and many new movies there. It's always such a pleasure. I adore that theater.

On the 17th, I will officially abandon this thread until after I see it on the 20th. Epic!

Better make that the 16th, because our UK friends get the film a day earlier than the Americas, and they like that crazy new-fangled internet machine just like we do.

I've found the major trailers to be unavoidable. I won't get to the theaters until after the new year, so I'll have to work hard not to get spoiled.

Thursday, 17th December at 12:01am is the first screening in my city, and should be the same time nationwide.

I have work so I got my ticket for 8:50pm. Only 3D screenings though, which is a slight disappointment.

3D is awesome! RealD can be disappointing, but I'm not sure I've ever been disappointed with IMAX 3D. Its always nice and bright.

Just think about seeing the Millennium Falcon with d.e.p.t.h.!

I'm with you-I hate 3D and would be bummed if that were the case.

I posted that pages ago. According to Disney, they aren't doing any press or preview screenings because they're terrified of information leaking out.

It's actually pretty sad, but that's the only reason why they're so loud because the average viewer could easily just ignore the films if they don't like them. Neither trilogy diminishes enjoyment of the other. And I like them both. Any talk of erasing them from the canon is just stupid.

So my mother in law tells one of her sons she's seeing The Force Awakens with me and my wife on opening night. Son gets annoyed.

"I can't believe you're so excited about that," he says, "The last three were so bad."
