Agreed. I actually don't know anyone who genuinely likes the prequels IRL. I figured, like others, that it was just a "fanboy" thing to hate them so much.

Nope.

It's a "normal, educated person" thing.

As a trilogy I'm not exactly fond of the prequels myself. Taken in isolation though I do like RotS and would likely rank it above RotJ.

That's because RotS is the entire prequel trilogy rolled into one film. Although I find it to be over bloated and at times a chore to sit through. I (gasp) prefer Phantom Menace because I find it to be a stronger film as far as pacing and excitement.

Plenty of people out there enjoy the prequels. Maybe it's just my age but I know quite a few people who actually prefer the PT over the OT (although these are usually the "I can't watch old movies" type of people ). My love of the PT is well-documented on these forums but IV and V will likely always be the best of the series.

My brother won't go with me to see TFA because of the prequels. Of course the two Abrams Star Trek films don't help.

I have my tickets for 7:45pm at my local theater, which wasn't my original plan.

I had wanted to see this at the theater where I first saw Star Wars in 1977. Their main screen is massive. The room is about the size of the Death Star docking bay. Unfortunately, that theater didn't have advance tickets on sale at first. Once they did, the earliest show I could get was 1:45am. So I will be seeing the film twice that night.

This.

I had never seen a Star Trek movie before the JJ version and loved both of them.

I have tickets for an 7 on the 17th IMAX with unreserved seating, but my friends bailed on me, and now have two extra tickets, and I can't seem to give them away.

You could always sell them on eBay. I sold 4 of my 5 for $10 above ticket price. PLUS, you could always return to the theater before showtime and get your $$ back.

I've met maybe 10 people who didn't like the prequels irl. And not one of them until 2010 or so.

Question

I think it's pretty much confirmed that
[Show spoiler]Han Solo
is going to be the death of this first chapter of this trilogy. I know in a story sense it may seem strange, once one watches all the movies in order, but it makes sense. Especially considering the role they play in this story.

It would make sense for Rey to react as was shown in the trailer. And would make even more sense if my theory that she already knows
[Show spoiler]Han, and possibly Chewie
before the movie takes place.

I'm just curious to see if there'll still be the emotional impact. Hopefully it will. Because having known about character's death beforehand can either detract or add to the actual demise. The only time it hasn't influenced my experience was Dobby's and Snape's death. I was still moved to tears even though I knew it was coming. As sad as it would be, I hope the same things happens with
[Show spoiler]Han's
death.

I don't know about
[Show spoiler]Han dying when Harrison has confirmed he'll return in Episode VIII.
I'm thinking that
[Show spoiler]Finn will be the one who dies.
Their death has pretty much been setup in the trailers.
