Wrong. AOTC was a sequel to one of the biggest box-office hits of the late 90s - which was also a marketing juggernaut. Most of the fans I know and almost all of the kids who saw it then were really happy with it. Many kids thought Jar Jar was very funny.
Sure, there were a few grown-up fans of the OT who didn't like it, and despite their being a small but vocal minority, somehow convinced some people than nobody had liked TPM, despite it being a box-office blockbuster of unprecedented magnitude. If the kids hadn't loved the PT, you wouldn't have had an animated series that ran successfully for five years. And as it happens, the PT also happens to be - by far - the most successful and profitable trilogy of self-financed movies ever made. Only Lucas could have financed a trilogy of movies with each installment costing over $100 million and walked away with a tiny profit. And on top of that, Lucas still got $4 billion from Disney for Lucasfilm and all film rights to SW & Indiana Jones. Anybody who pretends the PT wasn't a huge financial success just doesn't know what they're talking about. |

I was watching a Youtube clip on some of Star Wars: The Force Awakens being shot using IMAX cameras. Hopefully JJ Abrams doesn't pull a JJ Abrams or Brad Bird and cuts the IMAX footage to 2:40:1, hopefully they cut it to 1:78:1 ala Christopher Nolan and The Dark Knight.

1.43:1 Real IMAX. 1.9:1 Digital IMAX. 1.78:1 Your TV. Nolans films were cropped to 1.78:1 for Blu-Ray release. Bird cropped MI4 to 2.40:1 for Blu-ray release. Into darkness was re-released and has both cropped and 1.78:1 IMAX available on Blu-ray. The Collectors Edition of The Dark Knight Trilogy has the 1.43:1 scenes all together available for viewing. Force awakens was captured in 1.43:1 and is likely to display that way in true IMAX theaters, we'll see. ![]() It will be especially interesting to see what my real IMAX theater does as it has a 1.43:1 screen and a 1.9:1 digital projector. ![]() Last edited by Dreamliner330; 12-12-2015 at 09:33 AM. |

haha, people doing a Jurrasic World vs Force Awakens money comparison? This is a Star Wars film that everyone wants to see and will see a bunch of times again in theater. Star Wars! Real Star Wars too! Anyone with a brain and eyeballs that can see correctly knows from the trailers that The Force Awakens wont be another disappointing prequel style Star Wars film. The Force Awakens will make more money (domestic and international) than Jurassic World.

I was working last night and overheard a conversation being held by a family. The husband was trying to explain Star Wars to his wife and kids because they said it's the most complicated franchise ever. She was like, "why's the fourth movie the first movie and the sixth movie the third? It just doesn't make sense why someone would release them out of order." Then one of the kids asked if The Force Awakens was a sequel to Revenge of the Sith. When the husband said, "no it is actually the first sequel after Return of the Jedi." He started to get frustrated and had to explain the chronological order of the movies all over again lol.

Hard to imagine but J.J. Abrams was 17 years old when Return of the Jedi came out in 1983.
Here's J.J. Abrams in his first acting gig sharing a scene with Harrison Ford in 1991's Regarding Henry. Who would have thought that this kid would be directing Harrison Ford in a new Star Wars film! image.jpg |

I don't understand why anyone is watching new footage from the past couple of weeks.

I sure as hell won't watch anymore footage. The hardest part will be avoiding spoilers once people have seen the movie at early screenings. Especially on Twitter. Nobody bothers with a spoiler alert when they've only got 140 characters to work with.
