I saw an interview where he said 7, 8, and 9 were to focus on the Skywalker grandkids. He said the franchise was about generations of a family and not about spaceships. He sounded very condescending toward the new movie as if they were making some empty action flick. That is where my butt-hurt comment came from.
JJ said he and Kasdan didn't want to have a story about young kids, and wanted them to be older.
I've heard GL make snide remarks about grandchildren and spaceships multiple times since then. He also made an analogy saying it was like a messy divorce. I hope all the emotion settles down soon. I don't like seeing him that way.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a movie about the grandkids as long as they weren't kids. No one would want to see another movie about an 8-year-old or a bratty, angry, young man with puppy love.

But in the end, it's what they do, not who they are that counts. And while I haven't seen the new film, we don't yet know what's going to happen in the rest of this trilogy. It could still turn out that some of these new characters are Skywalkers or Solos, in which case it is about family.

How do you guys usually watch the films, 4-6 then 1-3 or 1-6? I've got tickets for the 17th and I haven't seen the films in quite a while, gonna start my marathon tonight. Probably gonna watch 1-7, just curious about your preferences.

My FIRST Star Wars marathon... guess I'm doin it right

I see a small number of fans here got an early ticket to see VII and gave it 5/5 stars in the poll.

Yes, I, II, III, IV, V, VI in order is the best way IMO if you have time. Otherwise, IV, V and VI will be enough to remind one of the continuing story forward.

I finished I and II each night, have to watch III, but might have to jump ahead to IV, V and VI to cover it all in time before I see VII. I've watched them many times before, but not for awhile this year till now.

I went the chronological route for the home viewing marathon.

Prequels I-III, then Original Trilogy IV-VI.

Actually I agree with that, it's not difficult at all to watch SW and pretend Episode I never happened.

Why would anyone cut out TPM but still subject themselves to AotC?

I'm going to start my rewatched tomorrow. AotC is the only film in the series I dread watching.

Phantom Menace is Lawrence Of Arabia compared to Clones and Sith and Jake Lloyd is Sir Lawrence Olivier compared to Hayden Christensen.

Hell, Jar Jar > Romance Of II and III

Personally I think the hype is too big to draw any proper solid conclusions for the first couple weeks. You need everything to calm down, let it sink, let people digest it, watch the film a couple times and then look at the movie level headed without the initial mega hype and fanboygasms.

I remember the initial period with TPM and everyone was blowing their loads over it lol! Sure many knew it wasn't as good as hoped but there was a lot of denial for some time.

So for at least a couple weeks I reckon most reviews will be good, but I will account much of that to the hype and fanboy overload. That's me anyway.

This is very true, just like TDKR and Jurassic world. Let people come back to earth before you start taking opinions seriously.

If you must, then watch Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" video, then proceed with the despecialized OT.
