I saw it Friday night and my theater just went straight from the local ads to the Lucasfilm splash before they even got the lights dimmed. Caught everyone by surprise.

I just got back from seeing it,

I wasn't all that impressed.

However that end scene has me eager for more.

[Show spoiler]Also there was no body.... I hate it when that happens. There was no time to dwell upon his death, no time for memorials, his death was basically a throwaway. Back to the whole no body thing, until I see a body I have a hard time truly accepting that he is dead. Give a funeral or something.

This is why you're having so many problems in this thread: You're not explaining any of your opinions, you're just spewing out negatives.

Why does it not stand on its own? Even people who have never seen a Star Wars movie have no problems following The Force Awakens. That's the definition of standing on its own.

If the new characters make no sense, how could they make sense, in your opinion?

Why are you insisting that this character is the same as the one mentioned in Revenge of the Sith, when no one knows yet? How is it the 'worst possible'? Have you seen all other possibilities? Worse than if it was JarJar? Can you see how that's a ridiculous statement?

"My family all thinks so too!" is not an argument. I'd like to hear more about your viewpoint, but you're coming across like a crazy person on a rant, instead of someone who is following any kind of logic.

[Show spoiler]I had considered that, but given that this entire series is heavily inspired by serials, many of which seemingly showed the demise of the hero at the end, only for the next chapter show how they survived, it's not impossible, just implausible.

At any rate I probably won't accept that he's dead until the credits roll on episode IX.

Until then my new residence will be in the state of denial. And there will be no reasoning with me. Attempting to so so with only make us all miserable.

ROTJ is a bit overrated in terms of SW movies. Yes I said it. Personally, I think they could have done without the emperor and focused entirely on Darth Vader vs Luke. The emperor seemed shoehorned in and a distraction that painted the story into a corner with no way to get out.
