"Riot Control Trooper", according to the Visual Dictionary, which should be required reading for SW fans. The book also mentions that there "may be other trooper variations" we haven't seen yet. I'm hoping for Scuba Trooper in Episode VIII.

Rey was obviously well trained even before the ending stuff, since she took on two men with her bo on Jakku.

Also the way you wrote this makes me sick so now we're both throwing up.
Speaking of well trained, I liked what I saw from Gina Carano in Haywire and Furious 6 As well as Adrianne Palicki in John Wick But this is nor the time or thread to be off on this subject matter. Underworld' and Total Recall' (remake) Kate Beckinsale is not too shabby either

Just ordered it, disappointed I can't just HAVE it at my local store but at least my Red Card ate the shipping cost and the tax. Will be seeing this again tomorrow during my 5 film marathon, might go again next Sunday too.

Finn's character made things happen that wouldn't have otherwise. I wouldn't say useless. He's a pivotal character in the story as he
[Show spoiler]helped free Poe and came back to help Rey. He also put up a decent fight against the Stormtrooper with the staff, and against Kylo Ren. Plus his story about going against the First Order is important too.

[QUOTE=bluearth;11693443]If I wasnt with a group, I would have walked out midway through

So this is what desperation looks like. And in many ways I hate that I contributed to this film's box office. I wish I could turn back time and never give this a chance and listen to George Lucas' warning.

This was worse then the prequels. And I sincerely apologize to Lucas for every criticizing them in the way I did after seeing how bad it really can get. This is a big budget fan-made Star Wars film. The script of this film...did it even get a second pass? The amount of contrived moments littered throughout this soulless mess was shocking - especially for a film of this scale.

Can we get over that 90% of the plot is based around a stupid MacGuffin? Oh the writers really tried hard with this one. What a boring movie they wrote. Lame action, forced humor, nothing memorable. What a waste of everyone's time. Introduce a location, blow it up. Introduce a new location, blow it up. Yeah and the rebels only need a dozen fighters to take on this scary, cookie cutter 'order' or whatever they call it. At this point its a matter of respect, and the lack of it shown towards me from Hollywood has passed the breaking point. If these suits destroy Snyder's Batman v Superman, then that will be the end of it.

Dont get me started with the feminism garbage. At least try and be sincere. When you layer it on this thick its obvious your a puppet playing games. You dont care about women's rights, all you care about is public perception. And it shows in your pathetic attempts to 'empower' women. You think showing a woman over power men physically on multiple occassions empowers them? You make me sick Hollywood. You and all your publicity stunts dont fool me. No, not one single bit. Your gutter trash, and dont you ever pretend you arent.

Well, Hollywood got what they want. If this film bombed it would really hurt the only thing they care about, their pockets. All the needle brain critics who rated this high no they would be out of their dime a dozen jobs as well if the movie industry isnt healthy. So they inflated this hunk of lard into something its not. Im sure the suits who are rolling in cash at Disney appreciate it. Lucas had the appropriate term for them.

Jesus christ. When will people realize that casting a woman in a lead role does NOT always indicate some synister femist, either real or fake, agenda?

Sometimes, and hold onto your butts here because I'm about to shock you, women are just the most interesting or appropriate character that the writer came up with!

Even more shocking, sometimes they want to have a strong female lead because they want to broaden their fan base.

They're not broadening the fan base by having a "feminist message," they're just doing it by having a female lead. There is absolutely NOTHING feminist about that, and it't not done at any point to try and appeal to the disturbingly tiny portion of people who actually WANT something in a movie that is overtly feminist.

I swear to god. I am sick and ****ing tired of the MRA, red pill, mgtow infants running around screaming about how feminism is destroying the country every time they have to see a woman on screen who's not stripped naked, being abused, or subservient to a man.

50% of the human population is women. Occasionally they're going to pop up in your movies.

Hollywood is still one of the most misogynistic industries in the country, a fact which isn't exactly changing very fast.

newsflash, just because feminists and your so-called "social justice warriors" decide they actually do like something, doesn't mean the studio intended that response. In fact it almost guarentees that that's not what the studio intended.

However, Star Wars was actually one of the better depictions of women I've seen from a major Hollywood movie. Rey is never depicted sexually and she never needs a man to help her for being a stupid woman. The closest they came to making her weak was when she hysterically went running off in the woods, but I personally read it more as her being young and naive, not a stupid woman. I actually liked her character a lot, and while I'm 100% certain they only made the character a female to appeal to a different demographic and make more money, she was a refreshing character that I believe little girls will love and admire. That's an audience that is almost always forgotten and they need their heroes too. Hell, Rey was at least a better role model than bikini Leiaand couch sitting Natalie Portman.
This is what's most bothersome about how political correctness has invaded cinema. Let's not focus on the story, characters, acting, directing or anything else that makes a good film. Let's make sure that every gender and the race is well represented and that there's no hint of offense, unfairness or hurt feelings to be found anywhere. If creativity has been sacrificed to appease self interest groups and turn a bigger profit, then in my opinion the film is a failure. Why should it matter what every character looks like, acts like and does in a movie? If I was a filmmaker, I'm going to make what I want and won't think twice about pleasing every demographic out there since that's impossible anyway. If you're an artist, make what you want and forget how everyone feels about it.
Bikini Leia was always a strong character. That was all just part of a ploy rescue Han anyway or Luke didn't need to show up. She also redeemed the scene by killing Jabba by herself. Some wouldn't be happy unless she single handedly destroyed the empire and never needed help but that's just not realistic. It was clearly a group effort and she did her part. Just because she had a slave outfit on at one point doesn't make her a bad example. There's nothing wrong with a damsel in distress either. A female lead also doesn't need to beat up every man she comes across either in order to be strong or confident. There's a lot more realism by showing the differences in men and women than trying to make it look like we're the same because we're not.

so let me get this straight. you think that Rey was a woman and Finn was black just because they wanted to force diversity down our throats, and that Star Wars was worse off because they weren't both cast as white men?

'social justice warrior' is an easy label for when folks are angry enough to need someone to blame but are ignorant (sometimes willfully) to the larger issue.

I really don't think that people realize that Lucas was going to have a female in the lead regardless. Abrams came on and Rey was Kira at that time, but she was still the lead role in the film. Just saying, it was always the plan with this film...

Yup. And George Lucas has never been known to write or cast certain actors just to appeal to certain demographics. Mace Windu was an absolute essential character that had to be portrayed by the usually vulgar and profane Samuel L. Jackson because he was perfect for the role...

I'm not saying it's bad that a female was cast as the lead in a gender indiscernible role. It's great actually. But they didn't do it because it made sense. They did it because there was potential to make more money and it probably gave them a self-righteous feeling.

But what's kind of funny about all of this is the reaction of some people who suddenly think this is a problem, when the same thing has been going on in Hollywood for a long time. I don't remember a lot of complaining about Will Smith being cast in race indiscernible roles (and several characters he played were originally white), but suddenly women in roles usually reserved for men is a problem. As a society, it seems we can get past race barriers, but gender barriers are sacred.

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of criticisms regarding Finn's character.... That he's a reject of a character without any qualities to aspire to, or that he is completely useless in the narrative, and I just don't get it.

First off, his actions, in some way or another, directly influence most of the main events that take place throughout the story. He serves, at the very least, as a secondary protagonist in the story and offers a unique perspective as a character that has broken away from the 'bad guys'. And he actually has a full character arc throughout the film... at first his sole objective is to run, to get as far away from the First Order as possible. Yet, by the end of the film we see him risking his life to save his friend, ultimately facing off with Kylo Ren in a light saber duel that he must have no confidence in winning.

Which leads me to the criticism that I've seen in other parts of the Internet, in which people mention that he is a terrible character that fails to become a hero and possesses nothing that viewers can aspire to, that he is simply there to be the Jar Jar of this new trilogy, and all I can say is 'what?' I can agree with the fact that he seems to fumble a bit more than necessary, and it doesn't help when he is contrasted with Rey. But he is shown to be an excellent marksman, and despite being defeated in both light saber duels, I personally thought he was still shown to be competent in those fights. But the character's real strength is his heart of gold, his compassion for others, and courage that he exhibits as he faces his fears. If that isn't something to aspire to, I don't know what is.

Being in the minority is where I like to be with regards to this worthless retread film. The majority of the world once thought the world was flat but they were obviously wrong. Keep following the rest of the sheep my friend. Happy new year!

I love it when people are impressed with themselves for not enjoying a film. It shows so much about their true character.
