And, Ernest, your delusions really don't sound that...delusional. It could make complete sense for them to wait until after the Oscar season to announce that Spielberg is at the helm.
Wow!

The wait might kill me, but that I'd like to see. Bold, indeed!

Kevin Smith can direct it. He's a fan, and Jay and Silent Bob can be in it as ghost Jedi's

OH MAN! The live action series may very well finally happen!

Meanwhile, ABC could be dusting off the 50 hours’ worth of scripts assembled by Lucas, producer Rick McCallum and geek-favorite writers like Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Caprica) for a live-action Star Wars TV series that unfolds during the years separating the prequel and “original” film trilogies. Lee’s informed EW that such an option is being considered right now:

It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.”
However, the potential cost may prevent this. Lucas’ original estimates were that the required effects will cost $150-200 million or an average $3-5 million episode price tag; though, before the acquisition, steps were being taken by the filmmaker and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to reduce expenses to $50-60 million (or $1 million per episode). Indeed, Lee admits the scale and approach preferred by new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will affect their decision:

So maybe something oblique is the way to [approach the Star Wars universe] rather than going straight head-on at it.”

They really are playing this close. Im trying incredibly hard to maintain optimism but its getting harder to resist. Kind of like someone who was bitten by a vampire but didnt die - they cant resist the blood forever. I have a bad feeling about all of this and what direction its gona take. No director, no main performers, fock!!!

The beauty of this whole thing is that there are 6 films with a very defined beginning and end that exist right now. They are cannon. They are the story and what matters. If Disney and ABC really hack this up then it can simply be ignored completely. Just like other useless sequels(Alien 3 & 4, Superman 3 & 4, etc, etc.) we can just pretend they dont exist. That being said, it could tarnish SW for newer viewers which would suck but may not be avoidable. Perhaps we can come up with two SW timelines or universes: Before Disney(BF) or After Disney(AD).

This is basically all we know:

Quote:
Sources say the live-action series centers on the story of rival families struggling over the control of the seedy underside of the Star Wars universe and the people who live within the subterranean level and air shafts of the metropolis planet Coruscant (the Empire’s urban-sprawl-covered home planet). A bounty hunter may be the main character. Set between the original Star Wars film trilogy and the prequels, the time period allows for all sorts of potential appearances from classic figures from the Star Wars universe.
Also, Disney and ABC won't be mucking it up. If anyone does, it's Lucasfilm. They're the ones making the films, and possibly returning to their TV show. The one that they've been developing for the last six years. This is all on them, not on Disney. It's easy to try and blame them, but it's just not the case here. Lucasfilm will run the same way that Marvel and Pixar do, which is independent from the parent company. Disney is their for distribution and financing.

Very encouraging news!
Maybe if they write it was a finite series, of say, 3-5 seasons, and that's it, they could spend a little more per season, possibily, bringing down the overall series cost?
Or cut a deal with some content provider that has very deep pockets and is slowly getting into the Original Content game, like:
Netflix, Directv, Comcast, Amazon, Verizon, etc.
With the new trilogy announced, the timing for this to happen doesn't get much better!

I always thought that meant something like The Clone Wars cartoon, or possibly, the HBO series. I'm very excited by this news! I didn't think it would be another movie!

There are plenty of SW books out there I'd love to see made into movies!

Has anyone suggested John Lasseter himself as the director? The prequels were almost 90% computer animated anyway. Wouldn't be that different from a Pixar movie...

Let's see, we'd get a long tear-inducing, dialogue-free Randy Newman montage about how Tatooine fell into bad times over the years of change, and Luke muses on his old friends at the power station and how Mos Eisley was no longer the sentimental old hive of scum and villainy he remembered from his childhood?

Hopefully these are more practical, like the Original Trilogy.

I don't think we should be expecting Blade Runner-esque special effects. I think everyone around Star Wars probably knows now what works and what doesn't when it comes to Star Wars. The only thing I hope for is that they use real sets for everything they can. There are too many shots in both AotC and RotS that look like they were filmed in front of a green screen. It might work for quick shot action scenes but some talking scenes just don't look right, then again technology has improved substantially in the last 10 years as far as digital animation is concerned.

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot more sets and practical effects in the new sequel trilogy then there was in the prequel trilogy (more so AOTC & ROTS.) Lucus just got excited often stepping over the limit with his new CGI toys at his disposal.
