So...lens flare lightsabers?

On the flipside, we might get to see this shot on film, this time. Hell, maybe even partially in IMAX.

Never thought I'd see the day Star Trek and Star Wars would be done by the same director, wow!

well this should be interesting. not going to slam it yet but I haven't been impressed with Abrams work so I don't have high expectations. but then again, can he make it worse than Phantom Menace?

Super 8 was fantastic. Just needed a better score, in my opinion.

Not going to lie....I have some hard reservations with this news but the optimistic side of me wants him to do something mind-blowing with this new power he has been given.

Don't want my mind blown...I just want a great story, with great characters, with great dialog, and a well-made movie. That in and of itelf is a tall order, I'll leave the mind-blowing to other franchises.

I'm kind of torn here.

On the one hand I really liked MI:3, ST09 and Super 8. None of them were great exactly but they were all good to very good with the occasional flash of greatness.

On the other hand, I'm not really crazy about his visual style. I don't mind the lens flares and whatnot, I just think his stuff tends to look kind of cold and artificial.

This one is easy for me. As a Star Wars fan who literally never watched a single Star Trek thing prior to the 2009 film, I love this. I know a lot of Trek fans were upset at the Abrams film, but I went in totally fresh to the Trek world and I loved every second of that movie.

If he can make a Star Wars film as good as the 2009 Trek, count me in.

Absolutely this. The Bond franchise got derailed fast when each entry started trying to outdo the one before. There's no need to reinvent the wheel here.

There are so many stories that can be told within the Star Wars universe I hope he doesn't try and mess with the movies that are already made. If I were him I would do a NJO since the actors are still alive. I would love to see Luke in his rebuilding of the Jedi order.

I would've rather they went with Filoni, but I'm not put off by Abrams!
I suppose the circle is complete!

Please, don't bring on Lindelof as a producer or anything.

Still iffy about a Trekkie directing a Star Wars film.
