I really want to see the New Jedi Order as well.

He didn't direct Cloverfield.

I dont know if I am happy or sad.

As long as he makes a Star Wars movie, and not a J.J Abrams Lens flare movie, I guess that will be okay. Keep the look and feel of the movies but with better acting and dialogue and we might have a winner.

He isn't a trekkie. He is a lifelong Star Wars fan who picked up Star Trek because like the rest of us at the time he thought Star Wars was done and over with. He has stated this countless times.

So, if this is true then he flat out lied when speaking to Empire only a month or so back:
Quote:
He added that "there were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Pretty poor form if you ask me. If this does pan out to be true this will change my thinking on Abrams. I know he loves his secrecy and I 100% support that approach - movies should be magical and you shouldn't know everything walking in. Having said that, when you swap misdirection for blatantly lying that's another story altogether...

Dude, that happens all the time in the business - or politics - or sports - it's just the game. Plus, people have the right to change their mind. For all we know, Disney's A choice finally balked (Spielberg?), sending them back to other people for a re-appraisal. Did they even have a screenwriter for SW back when they approached Abrams? Now they have Arndt and freaking Kasdan on board.

He might have been under obligation not to reveal it at that time. Still no news on the official channels and franchise website. My guess is that Disney wants to make a splash with this news, but it leaked.... or this is another false report.

I thought for sure Matthew Vaughn was getting the job since he left the current X-Men movie so quickly.

Also maybe Abrahms didn't want to be bombarded with SW related inquiries from the media when he is currently still in the finishing steps of delivering the next Trek movie for Paramount. If he is taking over, then he either recently committed and was trying to be professional about it. Paramount sank a lot of money into the Trek reboot. They will be hurting if Abrahms walks for the SW franchise.

You should probably steer clear of Rick's...I hear there's gambling in the back.

You know, he could have turned it down. Doesn't mean they didn't continue courting him. Look at this, it sounds like it took a lot of convincing for it to happen:

Quote:
Our sources have been telling us for a while now that Steven Spielberg was really pushing Kennedy to hire Abrams. The story goes that Abrams was the first filmmaker approached after Spielberg, but was very hesitant. Kennedy talked to other directors including Ben Affleck and also Matthew Vaughn who may have pitched to have Chloë Grace Moretz in the lead role. Our sources say that Spielberg was instrumental in convincing Abrams and Kennedy to make it happen.

Ben Affleck would have been a cool choice, a big taking for him though.

Imagine if it bombs.

It would be cool if in this new film Spock opens a portal and the prequels never happen.
