Star Trek Into Darkness better rule, or there's going to be some rumblings.

The article still seems a bit speculative for my tastes: what we need is an official statement from Kennedy before I get excited.

And as for the people who are re-thinking Abrams because he "lied", think how much lying Lucas did to get to this position here...Star Wars is based on a web of lies and deceit

I know, I just said that he wasn't lying. That was the point of why I said it took a lot to convince him.

So does this mean Star Wars and Star Trek fans can be friends now?

Touché. Still - it's not naive to expect that someone providing an interview to a major magazine would tell the truth. If he didn't want to say anything he didn't have to. Abrams is the king of the spin when it comes to turning his "no comment" answers into "will he/won't he" type scenarios. He seems to love the level of discussion those types of responses bring. If he wanted to misdirect the readers he could have said anything - even his trademark "I haven't decided what I'm doing next, I'm just focusing on my current film" response (which is the same one Christopher Nolan gives) would have worked just fine.

Perhaps. Still, then that means his convictions regarding his loyalty to a franchise and his reasons for not wanting to step behind the camera weren't particularly strong. One month he says he won't do it for loyalty and wanting the experience the magic in the theatre, the next month he's ditching the loyalty and going to be involved in the very minutiae he stated he didn't want involvement in. So he either lied or his convictions didn't carry much weight.

Spielberg can be mighty convincing.

I think Abrahams will be a good choice for these movies.

I was excited to see someone interesting do this, not Abrams (I love him, but he's done space already) have someone cool and new and a bit risky.

I can only imagine what fresh hell a lightsaber fight with lens flare will look like.

Wasn't blown away with the Star Trek reboot and Super 8, both of which felt competent but not very inspired, but there's worse directors they could've picked for the job I suppose. With a good story and script I could see Abrams doing a great job with it, but something tells me it'll be a workmanlike action film with every detail labored over by a corporate committee.

After the fiasco that was Lost, I will never trust JJ Abrams or Damon Lindelof again. Just wait, they aren't really in the Star Wars Galaxy, they're in purgatory...

I'm not his biggest fan, but at least we know he'll blow the prequels out of the water.

J.J. Abrams directing? Check. Michael Arndt writing? Check.
I'm in.

Hope they do update the visuals style a bit.(Cinematography, etc.) Wouldn't mind having Abrams mixing his visual style with the Star Wars formula a bit. Keep it in line with the original trilogy, but add a modern scheme to it. Plus more real sets, rather than the CG-overloaded prequels. J.J. did an awesome job with the visuals of Star Trek, and to be honest I wouldn't mind him borrowing a few notes from it for this.

Btw can we have Abrams using IMAX cameras for this as well? Pretty please

I can suspend belief enough to accept laser swords, space ships and aliens but the minute a character survives a head on crash with a speeding train is when I get up and ask for my money back.
