I'm a little disappointed by the new Abrams announcement. I though Matthew Vaughn sounded so much better for the job. The tone and intensity he broght to X-Men First Class is exactly what this new Star Wars trilogy needs. Still hoping it's just a rumor.

Don't get me wrong, I really like what Abrams did with Star Trek but something here just doesn't fit right for me.

Lucas' son confirmed it. I say it's definitely not a rumor and is pretty much a done deal.

Fincher put plenty of "fake" lens flare into The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I personally hate the effect, I can tell its false. The human eye can detect fakeness easily.

J.J was my second choice, so this is very good news.

I understand that people want something new brought to the table, but this franchise isn't about big, bold ideas. It is a formula. Same with Indiana Jones.
Rian Johnson too bland? Are you sure about that?

He did it in Benjamin Button too, and I can see what you mean.

Any where's that guy who claimed to have friend within Disney and Spielberg is a done deal. He needs to be ridiculed for his sad attention seeking lie

Any respect that guy had has long since gone out the window, and he should be held up as a lughing stock to other 'Exclusive News!' wannabe's that feel like posting BS. That includes the other guy that posted after him as well.

As for Abrams, rock solid choice, he is a decent action and character director with a strong cinematic feel so should do a half-decent job of it. The Executives at Disney need to ensure that Episode 7 at least has the same feel as the original trilogy, which did't go for a tremendous amount of Bay-esque camera movement and chose to simply shoot the action wide.

Kirschner didn't follow Lucas' style - Kirschner moved the camera (like that dolly in on Leia when they're closing the hanger doors on Hoth). Lucas never did anything like that in the original Star Wars. I don't expect Abrams to go nutty with his camera, but he's not going to follow Lucas' style, either.

I think any of the people we've been speculating about would have been good choices - Spielberg, Johnson, Bird, Vaughn, even Verbinski. I don't have a problem with Abrams, because just as the original Star Wars was an expression of love for old sci-fi serials, Abrams has that same love for Star Wars, so in a sense, it's a passing of the torch. I'm sort of chuckling at some people having a meltdown on other forums.

Lucas has always compared his Star Wars films with stage drama. His camera work is mostly static, including his actors' performance.

Anyway, enough of that. Abrams helming Episode VII is great news.

I am pretty excited about this because JJ is a good director and I am hopeful that Arndt will do good on the screenplay.

JJ + Arndt > JJ + Orci + Kurtzman + Lindelof

Now we just have to wait for some casting news, although with him directing we will have no idea who they will be.

Wonder if Williams will return or if it is probably more likely that Giacchino will brought on.

People always have a tendency to overreact, particularly where Star Wars is concerned.

J.J is a safe choice, he made a successful 'reboot' of Star Trek, and I have full confidence in his ability to give us an awesome Star Wars film. It could very well shape up to be the best film in the series.

I can bet anything that J.J is going to deliver . He knows what people love about the original material and not to mention his movies are really well paced. One of the few directors out there who can make a character driven film while still being highly entertaining with unique action sequences.
The only thing I'm worried about is that he might go the CG route. The O.T still looks GREAT as it was all miniatures. Maybe I'm old fashioned but sets, matte paintings and miniatures look more real to me than the best of the best CG. Prometheus looked stunning as it was real sets and miniatures touched up with CG. I hope they go the same route with the new Star Wars films.
I still can't believe they used CG clone troopers instead of having men in suits! I know they have to be exactly identical but I'm sure they could have adjusted the height digitally. I'm thinking Disney having a low budget for this film would make the film better.

Abrams is still young enough to not want to screw-up his reputation. Also, look what he did to Star Trek. Super 8 is the only weak link in his small director resume. I'm glad he took the reigns.

This man will knock the film out of the park, and will do it in a way fans love. I'm sure of it.
Eaxctly Walt!
Which is why I constantly say on this thread:

You can please some of the people, all of the time
