I can't wait to see the details start to roll in!
This movie could win every major award out there, and he'll still receive hate mail.
Some Star Wars fans just can not be pleased, no matter what!
The last 35 years have taught us this.

I was hoping this announcement would make me excited but I think the prequels and Lucas' endless revisions of IV-VI destroyed any lingering childhood enthusiasm I had for Star Wars. Not ragging on Abrams at all, just realizing that I'm so over this franchise. Oh, well.

Don't give up man. When Lucas sold it off, I felt like a candle was lit in the dark. Do not despair!

With Disney, I feel that the UOT has a fighting chance, as well as any new Star Wars films.

Well I'm not one to debate the validity of one's fandom, nor can I solve all the world's problems...but all I know is I love all the movies(of course I'd like to have the UOT's), and can't wait for new film. I couldn't be more pleased with all the great news coming so quickly from this project!

I think its possibly one the best move Disney/Lucas Film have done Director wise. They have gone with a Director what is experienced and young and wont be trying to put his stamp on it, just what the fans and wanting to see with something new.

No doubt that JJ will bring something special to Episode VII. Expect a Greg Grunberg cameo.

Truly excited now.

I think Disney's going to pump that well - they own the movies now, they can do what they want -- but I also think they'll be as shrewd as Lucas when it comes to releasing them on home video. They'll strike when the iron is hot.

Of course, once a deal is in place with Fox...or maybe they don't mind if Fox take a piece of the pie.
I do know this, Disney has to start recouping that $4 billion some way. The fastest way to throw a little coin in the coffers would be to release the UOT's. I think for them, the iron can never be any hotter.

I do not blame you if this sounds far fetched. I used to live a block from ILM in San Rafael CA. I would drink and play pool across the street from ILM. Now things change and this was about 10 years ago but people their were saying that we will never see the UOT. One reason going around is that since his divorce, she has some points in the originals so if he alters it she gets nothing from it. So we will never see it cause she's not going to profit from it. Like I said nothing to substantiate. THese were all hearsay to me

It may sound far fetched but its the most logical explanation i've heard for not releasing the UOT. Its sounds better than "they don't exist anymore".

Lucas doesn't own them anymore. If Disney wants to include them and pay Marcia some bones, they can. Thing is, even when he did still own the films, he did in fact release them on DVD (although in a substandard fashion, merely giving an alternative to the pirated versions).

Star Wars has seen a blu release already. If Disney were to re-release them again on blu (and they will), what better way to get people to double dip than restored versions of the original films included, a'la Spielberg's E.T.? The good will generated by that could be signifcant.

Yes, that was exceptionally nonsensical.

As far as Fox agreeing to a co-release with Disney to release Star Wars (1977) just look at how well Fox and Warner Bros have been playing with each other when it comes to the Batman TV series from the 1960's. There is even less money to make on the Batman series than Star Wars.
