Star Wars has seen a blu release already. If Disney were to re-release them again on blu (and they will), what better way to get people to double dip than restored versions of the original films included, a'la Spielberg's E.T.? The good will generated by that could be signifcant.[/QUOTE]

And as much as I hate to say it, I would not be able to get my money out of my pocket fast enough to buy it.

Same here. I've bumped into a few people who are in the same boat as me and are not going to be purchasing Star Wars until it happens. If it's that easy to find supporters of the UOT, surely Disney sees the gain in it. Lucas had personal reasons not to release it (bruised ego?), but that's not going to hold it back anymore.

I know a bunch of people that have yet to buy SW on Blu including myself. There are a lot of people that frequent this site that refuse to buy any blu until the pre 1997 editions are included. But back more to the point of the thread, I just hope that JJ does not go the way of Star Trek. He made the new Trek a fun adventure but was not at all "Star Trek" like and I fear that Star Wars and ST just might come close to merging into one movie (so to speak).

Subject of thread is 'Disney buys Lucasfilm'. We were discussing the likelihood of the UOT being released as a result of Disney buying Lucasfilm. Nothing is off-topic.

Apparently Abrams won't commit to the 2015 release date. I respect that, he doesn't want to do a crappy rush job.

If they film it this year then I don't see why it can't be released mid/late 2014. I doubt J.J will use as much green screen as George, so I doubt they'll really need as much time to do the special effects.

If the Sun is to believed (which it isn't) then they'll be filming this summer and using a location outside Bluewater shopping centre in London to film a big battle scene. It was on page 3 on today's issue, so take that with a large pinch of salt.

Been doing a bit of searching, and the Guardian has now posted the story.

Quote:
The Guardian

The Star Wars saga famously unfolds in 'a galaxy far far away', but filming for the latest instalment in the movie franchise looks set to take place in a less than exotic location.

Shooting for Star Wars VII, which is set to start in the summer, will take place in the shadow of a suburban shopping centre.

A disused quarry overlooking Kent's sprawling Bluewater complex is thought to have been earmarked as a location for battle scenes from the new film.
Unlikely setting: A quarry overlooking the sprawling Bluewater shopping centre in Kent will be used to film scenes for Disney's new Star Wars movie

The site next to the shopping centre has previously been used as a location to shoot scenes from the Doctor Who television series.

'Doctor Who has been filmed there and it can easily replicate other planets,' a source told the Sun newspaper.

'They'll just have to make sure they don't include the shopping centre in any shots.'

Filmmaker JJ Abrams was announced by Disney as the director of the highly-anticipated new film - scheduled for release in 2015, this week.

The news raised eyebrows among sci-fi fans, as Abrams is already attached to the rival Star Trek franchise.

Which would explain the haggling.

Lucas has given me and millions of kids a childhood full of fun,joy and great toys to play with for years on end.Imo those who say the SE's raped their childhoods should get a grip. I grew up with SW and he owes me nothing. Love the guy and can't wait for the new SW movies!

Considering George Lucas always needed 3 years for each film, I find the 2015 date worrisome.

You don't need greenscreen to do special effects. Special effects happen on the set or location. You mean visual effects, and there were about 1800 VFX shots in Stra Trek, which is almost as many as in the SW prequels.

I think they should take the time to deliver the best film ever made, otherwise they will get killed by all these maniacs out there!

Just watched ROTS with my sister, and boy do I love that movie!

It's my all time favorite!

If they can capture the magic of this masterpiece, then I am in heaven!

Source? The script has been well in development for some time now. We are over a two and half years from that date, it would be easy to meet.

I would like to know the source too, but two and a half years???

Are they going for an autumn release date now??

I'd think 16-19th of May, and that's clearly less.

Though they don't fully commit, I think they'll make the 2015 schedule. All the prequels shot in a summer, and released two years later.

Episode VII has been in pre-production since July last year when Kathleen Kennedy joined Lucasfilm. Knowing how Lucas works all the conceptual designs were started very early on before the script was completed.

The plan to make the new trilogy started in 2009 if I remember correctly, way before any deal with Disney. George always wanted someone else to direct even then.

Decent news I guess. JJ is very capable but I still feel that this is an uninspired, predictable choice. Maybe this will be good for me in the sense that I'm not elated by the news and don't feel like the world is ending...going into a new Star Wars movie with an "eh" feeling will be a nice change of pace. That said, I'll probably go ape@#% once the first trailer hits.
