IMDb says JJ is producing as well. Bad Robot logo in front of Star Wars? Do I believe this?

Read the press release. This not just a director-for-hire deal, J.J. Abrams wants full involvement of Bad Robot before he agreed to sign on, he's producing with his partner Bryan Burk. I'm sure he will bring all his usual crew too. Also, Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg will serve as consultants.

I'd think 16-19th of May, and that's clearly less.
I doubt Star Wars is coming out in May. That would put Avengers 2 and Star Wars in May. Talk about canabalizing your profits. And POTC 5 is slated for July that year. Most likely Star Wars is becoming a winter franchise. Though, it will be rough going up against Avatar 2 that December. Unless, we get Avengers 2 in May, Star Wars in June, and POTC 5 in July, but that seems unlikely.

Or,
Star Wars: May
Pirates 5: October(Halloween?)
Avengers 2: December

Kind of stretch, but who knows at this point.
Man 2015 could be the biggest box office take in history. Talk about a potentially heavy-hitting line up!

I really don't think they'll move 'Avengers 2'. Maybe 'Pirates', but not 'The Avengers'.

Avengers 2 will not be moved. Pirates would seem like the likely one to be moved but there is no way it can compete against Avatar 2 in December. Only Star Wars would have a hope of going up against a Cameron film and surviving. We will just have to wait and see, but considering Star Wars is the only one of those three films without a month and day set, I'd say it is the one that will be up in the air. It's definitely coming out in 2015 but when is hard to tell. May and July are spoken for and there is only one other logical tentpole month, December.

Star Wars has seen a blu release already. If Disney were to re-release them again on blu (and they will), what better way to get people to double dip than restored versions of the original films included, a'la Spielberg's E.T.? The good will generated by that could be signifcant.
Great points. The thing that always got me was he forced me to double triple quadruple dip and he could have easily made me quintuple the dang thing and I would have for sure. But they didn't. Why? When every one of us would have forked over the cash at the drop of a stormtrooper helmet. I never knew George to pass up on an easy buck.

I also used to manage the Outback Steakhouse in Marin City and he visited us a few times (maybe still does) with his kids.

J.J is the chosen one, he will bring balance to the "force", between the Star Wars fans and the Trekkies.

Star Wars would destroy POTC. It should be separated from Avatar 2, though!

I'm glad to hear that JJ is resisting pressure on a set date. That means he's approaching this with the right intention.

After watching the featurette on Super 8 about Michael Giacchino scoring the movie I hope he does Star Wars Ep. VII.

He is already heavily influenced by JW and he does a great job. Almost like a changing of the guard.

I think Avatar is one of those non-recurring phenomenons where everyone goes to see a film because of the technology and visuals, and the momentum sort of builds and drags people along with it who otherwise don't go to the movies. Personally, I think everyone got their fill the first time around -- I don't remember the "extended cut" making much of a blip in theaters -- and seeing the film on cable strips the "wow" factor out of it, exposing that god-awful screenplay for what it is. Not saying Avatar 2 and 3 won't make money, but it won't pull the numbers as the first film.

I wouldn't be scared of it at all.

Yes, but if Super 8 has one flaw, it's the score, which is unmemorable and lacks personality, the exact oppposite of John Williams. I don't know why Giacchino is aces when he's scoring for Pixar, but somehow seems to fade into the background when he's scoring for live action.

Hes a bettre choice than some of the names I had heard. I liked, not loved the new Star Trek so there is potential here. Keeps fingers crossed.....

IGN and hollywood reporter are reporting that Abrams has not committed to the 2015 release date

Quote:
J.J. Abrams being named director of Star Wars: Episode VII has dominated movie talk for the last week, but could the project be delayed?

When the sequel was first announced last year, Lucasfilm set 2015 as the year of release.

But The Hollywood Reporter claims that isn’t as set in stone as first suggested, their sources saying “Abrams has not committed to that release date, meaning the date could be changed if the development process requires it.”

THR also shed some light on the courting of J.J., explaining “Abrams said in November that he wasn't interested in taking over the venerable franchise from creator George Lucas. But sources tell THR that Kennedy contacted Abrams in early January and went to visit the filmmaker at the Santa Monica offices of his Bad Robot production company. Kennedy is said to have won over the filmmaker with her pitch.”
