No matter what Abrams and company do, there will be fan support and fan ire. Stars Wars has becomes too much of a lightning rod over the years, that there is no possible way to please everyone.
Which is why I'm going in, with an open mind and ready to be entertained.
The fact that I will probably be able to take my little boy to see these movies, just like his father did at his age so many years ago, is the most priceless part of the Star Wars legacy for me.

depending on how far after Jedi they want to place the movie, they could get rid of most of the original cast and start fresh but considering how young Luke was in the original trilogy, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to get rid of him as he is now that elder Jedi character. if you place it too far into the future, you run into one huge problem -if the jedi are back and in full force, you are back to where you were at the beginning of Phantom Menace. while it could be interesting to see them do a different take on the Sith taking over, I could see it becoming screwed up very quickly if the studio looks at it and goes "but you did something like this in this movie, can you change it?". If they don't want to go that direction, then it doesn't make sense not to use Luke. I don't see them not using the original cast in the new movies even if some are just cameo roles but I still think Luke will be a huge part of the new movies.

Also, everyones body is different. Some people simply look better as they age. Genetics plays a big role. Kind of how we all have a friend who can eat whatever they ant and not work out at all who stay thin. Or guys that go bald at 25 and others have a rug even at 70 years old.
lol to reiterate in even simpler terms, because of any of those things doesn't mean you should stop working hard at taking care of yourself.

That being said, it is also important to ween us grizzled SW fans off of them and setup the new characters, mainly Jaina & Jacyn Solo and whomever else comes into play. They CAN get this right. They COULD also ruin it forever. No Twilight cast whatsofockingever. Or I wil light a bucket full of puppies on fire and summon Satan to destroy the Earth.
Honestly, as long as it's a good story I couldn't care less whether the original 3 are there or not. The actors/characters need to be there to serve the story. Not the other way around. I don't want Disney to put the original 3 characters/actors in the movie JUST for the sake of it to appease fanboys.

I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment. They've expressly stated that they are not basing the new trilogy on any established EU, but it seems like you're expecting certain characters that were not in the previous films to be in the new films. They may or may not be, but I think it's likely they won't be. Han and Leia could have separated after ROTJ due to his not being cut out for the soft life of a Republic senator. There's nothing saying they ever had kids, or how many, or what role they have in the new films.

Lucas had some notes and I'm sure there was a lot of discussion on what the new trilogy would be about. At this point, since we know so little, I'd say it's best to have zero story/character expectations so when something different comes down the pike you don't feel it's "wrong."

Who?

We can expect new characters, but we have no idea who they are nor what these movies are going to be about.

He's talking about Han and Leia's children in the EU.

Yes, Han and Leia's children fall through a black hole taking them back to 21st century Europe on Earth, they solve the EU's (European Union) economic problems and in the process save the world from a civilization ending economic melt down.

Make Episode VII about Luke's Jedi Academy, training his daughter/nephews and the rise of a new Sith who lasts longer than Dooku & Maul.

Ep VII-IX arc Luke has moved to the dark side under the guide of DS, it is not revealed until the end of ep VIII that he is playing both sides. It will not be a major character but enough to use the arc.

Disney are going to have a double-nightmare trying to deal with the hot potato of the Extended Universe, with either crowbarring 20 years worth of Star Wars narrative into the background of the new film or dealing with a huge number of Star Wars fans that will be pissed off at them actually ignoring the Extended universe. It's a no-win situation. I stopped reading the EU books when the prequels came out because i knew Lucasfilm wouldn't give a damn about them.

Exactly. Which is why, despite rumors that have been posted, I don't think this new trilogy will completely abandon the EU. I don't think the EU will be featured prominently, but there will be: characters, places, things, events etc mentioned. How far they will play a role...well I guess that's the $1million question!
Then will they even acknowledge the stand alone films? Supposedly not, but it seems like a lot of continuity that they would have to "dance around".
Again, I'm just happy to even be discussing this!

Exactly! I'm afraid they are going to squeeze the actors/characters in because they feel obligated to do so when there is really no need for it.

Disagree. Disney is in a WIN-WIN situation. Because a percentage of fans will be pissed of no matter what they do, they can do what ever they want. What ever decissions they make will inevitably piss people off, so either you piss off those people over there, or these people over here but in the end it doesn't matter which group you piss off because either way you will make billions!!

The fact that there will be pissed off fans regardless of what Disney does allows them to consentrate on good story lines and creative movies rather than appeasing fans... That's if they take that approach. My fear is that they try and make everyone happy, which is not even close to possible and they end up making sacrifice and comprimise for the sake of popularity. The problem with that approach is that the same percentage of fans will still be pissed off and you get crappy movies on top of it.

I think the number of people who've never read an EU book exponentially outnumbers the people who have. Personally, I don't see a problem.

They should have done an "Episode 0" Trilogy

Start from the very beginning and the very first Jedi Knight, Lightsaber, Sith, etc.
