Rather they go back to the old days, enough with the clones and the empire. I want the old jedi and Sith wars from 5000 years ago. That would be way more interesting then Episode 7-9 or something similar.

I saw Jim Henson do the same thing 20 plus years ago and probably figured "who else but Disney?" since he always considered Star Wars as kids stories anyway (even if again the Internet fanboys disagre). My only concern, Disney is no longer the "old Disney" (I know some here hold them in high regard but the company is no longer what it was) and they could just destroy this till it's dry. However if they set it up like they do with Marvel, put a good guy on top of it and let them run the show, this could give us some nice movies in the coming years....The Old Republic anyone?
Disney really aren't as bad as people make them out - sure, they're money-grabbing fatcats who try to earn as much money as possible by putting out as many sequels as they can, but you give me a film company who doesn't. Just because Disney appears to be the major player in Hollywood at the moment doesn't mean they're a terrible company.

Like Walts Ghost said, they'll stand back and leave SW to its own devices, occasionally giving their input but mainly taking the stand-back approach.

Well, hopefully!

Not me. I don't agree with every Georgie has done, but I can certainly say this:

George Lucas has given me much more than he's taken away...and for that I thank him!
And I thank you for having the guts to say that.

Yeah, Greedo shooting first pissed me off, and Han walking on the tail of a crime boss and getting away with it, but I can go make a sandwich during those bits, and I certainly don't forget the original.

I feel in no way "raped" by George Lucas, and hate hearing this. I thought when South Park showed Lucas as a rapist it really illustrated how over-the-top this statement is, and I laughed my arse off!

They are not bad but they not what they use to be. Like I said if they let it run like what they are doing with Marvel, pick a top guy to run it and let them be, this could work very well.

I hate that era. Loathe it with a passion. That's why I won't even play SW:TOR, even though I'm a Star Wars fan.

So the last thing I want to see is a film based around that era in Star Wars history.

Agree...how about both?
Do negative Roman numerals exist?

Episode -I, -II, -III...

No, I suppose they're not -- sorry, I kinda misread your post up there

Hopefully it'll all be fine and dandy!

If any studio can get the movies right it's Disney.

I want it badly! I love that part of Star Wars. Getting tired of empire vs rebels and the same old stuff all the time. The entire back story of Star Wars goes back 100 000 years and 25 000 for the Republic. Let's leave Luke, Han, Leia and their children for a while and do something new

That phrase is horrible and I hate it when people use it; no matter what anyone does to any film, I never feel "raped" by them. Lucas made bad decisions when he changed things, but I looked at it in the way that, since it was his idea and his films, he could do what he liked to them.

Just don't get into it...

We're all entitled to opinions.

But it's nice to have someone agree with you too, so I'll leave you with this (Kevin Smith fanboys, don't read);

[Show spoiler]My arse has directed better movies than Kevin Smith. He is a talentless hack who has ridden off the success of Star Wars since day one. His movies have no soul, no talent, no character direction and no plot. Joss Whedon is a genius, who can juggle every element that makes a blockbuster movie great. And who knows, if he set his mind to it, with his understanding of emotion and character, he could probably direct a great drama too.

Michael Bay shits on Kevin Smith. I at least own some of his movies.

He didn't just sell his baby, he sold his entire empire. He sold it to the type of entity he despised.

SELLOUT!!!!!!!

I think this is a good thing, as Disney have said that things will stay same same, but if they sprinkle a little mouse-magic on the new movies, well...

Lol!

Don't agree, but love your wording!

Don't worry, unaltered 4-6 Blu's are on the way. I can smell them.

Go digging for the Phantom Menace 3D thread. See I said I can smell Episode 7... sometimes I can read Lucas' mind!

He did make bad decisions (IMO, anyway) in most of the changes made to the originals, but it was his call. But it was my call whether or not to buy them, which I didn't. I haven't bought Star Wars on a home format since the last unmodified releases on VHS, which I bought with allowance money as I was fairly young at the time, lol.

The only aspect of Lucas' changes I ever took issue with was his refusal to release the original versions. A letterboxed 4x3 Laserdisc transfer isn't good enough, which is why I didn't bother paying for the last DVD release. There's no reason the theatrical cuts can't look as pristine as the special editions; they just need to clean up and restore the remaining footage and plug it back in.

Now that Lucas no longer as absolute control, I just hope Disney gets around to giving us that release.

just watch, they'll start putting Mickey Mouse in the Star Wars films, making everything cute. There will be broadway musicals. The only thing Disney did right with Star Wars was the "Star Tours" attraction. BOTH versions.
