LucasFilm Animation to premiere new animated Star Wars series, set between Episode III and IV.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/star-wars-rebels/

With Lucasfilm firmly ensconced in Disney land, production has begun the next animated Star Wars TV series. Two months after The Clone Wars was forced to surrender following a five-year run on Cartoon Network, Star Wars Rebels is massing its forces for a fall 2014 attack. It will premiere as an hourlong special before the series kicks off on Disney XD outlets worldwide. Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, the action series is set during the nearly two-decade span between Episode III and IV of the Star Wars films — a time frame never chronicled onscreen. The Empire is fortifying its hold on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion is taking shape, but plot details are in the vault...

The first public look at Star Wars: Rebels will be at Star Wars Celebration Europe, set for July 26-28 in Messe Essen, Germany.

Fortunately, we don't have to worry about that any more since they've corrected the problem on the BD release.

I wonder if it'll have the same writers as Clone Wars.

Excellent news! I hope Dave Filoni is behind this series as well. He did such a great job on Clone Wars.

He will be. He's one of two executive producers for the new show.

With Filoni involved, I have a strong feeling that this new show will eventually tie up loose ends from the Clone Wars series. He'll probably bring back older versions of some characters, and maybe even do some flashback episodes.

We've seen this happen before, when Bruce Timm used Justice League as an excuse to finish up the defunct Batman Beyond. I think Filoni will do the same with Clone Wars and Rebels.

That's fantastic news! Was this announced somewhere? Not that I don't trust you, but I'm surprised I missed it.

Great actor! Perfect choice to play Luke Skywalker's son, Ben Skywalker.

I wonder if they can pull it off with making as few references to the prequels as possible?

Luke shouldnt be having kids so its a bad idea. IMO, Solo and Leia are the ones that should be having kids.

Why? His father did, and they turned out fairly well.

I have 2 words for anyone who thinks having the main character having offspring in a sequel/reboot/redid/etc. is a good idea: Superman Returns. 'Nuff said.

Luke killed his own father. I think that would screw someone up over time, no? Luke being a hermit > Luke running around with little kids.

The problem with the kid in 'Superman Returns' is we never go to see the full development of what he was supposed to become. Singer had a big plan for him, and it was great. It actually made a lot of sense. But unfortunately, we never got to see it play out.

Just because it doesn't work for one movie, doesn't mean it can't work for another. If they have kids, at this point, the kids would probably be closer to the age the cast was in the original films, not actual kids. Done properly, it would work. It did in the books.

What was Singer's plan? I don't remember ever reading about that. You can pm me it if you don't want to go off-topic.

I see Luke being more of a teacher of young Jedi than anything else. Actually, maybe not Obi-Wan hermit but not married with kids. Somewhere in the middle. I think Han and Leia having kids (which is what they'll probably do) is more than enough.

I wouldn't expect the children of Luke and Han/Leia to be actual children. They're so old that I would assume their children would be late-teens at the youngest. They should probably be like 20s, so it would work. I don't think they'll make another mistake like Anakin in Phantom Menace.
