Ouch. Shit is a tad overboard. Disappointing in some respects? Hell yes.

You kind of need a good script AND good actors. One without the other won't work.

Not to mention, Lucas was notorious for not directing the actors. Heck, some quite after Ep1 and wouldn't come back cause they were so offended.

Anyway, casting good actors (known or unknown) is important. Chemistry is a must. But none of that matters if you are giving them mind-numbingly bad dialouge.

As long as none of the kids yell, "Yipee!", "I'll try spinning that's a good trick", or have an alien who was banished because he was clumsy become a general by the end of the movie I'll be pretty freakin' happy.

great choices. with Efron, JJ is now able to make Star Wars more accessible by pulling in those teen girls fans that Star Wars is lacking and with Gosling, he can put the audience to sleep with that slooooow, monotone voice he uses.

So spot on about Gosling, the guy only has one tone. Seriously anger, sadness, panic, every emotion comes across the same when he talks. Ok Actor but nothing special.

Well that's true to a degree, but I love the original films, and Hamill and Fisher have proven that outside of Star Wars, they can't act (unless we're going with Hamill's Joker voice over work).

Jennifer Lawrence is a great choice. She's a very good actor, and could easily convey the same bold, audacious persona as her mother, Leia (Carrie Fisher).

No way Disney screws any aspect of this up.

If they make something decent, then of course they'll make a huge profit. But if it's brilliant, those numbers will double and open up so many other doors.

Ryan Gosling 'Star Wars' Rumor 'Not True' According To Representatives

Quote:
A new report about Ryan Gosling meeting with J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm to discuss "Star Wars: Episode VII" has been denied by the stars representatives.

According to the film site Latino Review, Gosling met with the "Star Wars" production team to discuss playing Luke Skywalker's son in the highly anticipated sequel. "This is not true," Gosling's reps wrote in an email to HuffPost Entertainment. (The Latino Review story also makes mention of Zac Efron as another possibility for "Episode VII." An email to Efron's representatives has not yet been returned.)

For what it's worth, Gosling has expressed a desire to back away from acting in the short term. "I've been doing it too much," he told The Associated Press in March. "I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."

Since that interview, Gosling hasn't attached himself to any new projects. He'll next be seen in Terrence Malick's untitled and undated film with Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Christian Bale, Rooney Mara and a host of other big names. (It's Malick, however, so which stars actually wind up appearing in the film -- and when it will get released -- remains a guessing game.) Gosling also has his directorial debut, "How to Catch a Monster," set for release in 2014. He reportedly won't appear in that film.

For more on the "Star Wars" rumors about Gosling and Efron, as well as which other A-list star went in to meet with Lucasfilm, head to Latino Review

No offense to Jennifer Lawrence since she's a good young actress, but it gets tiresome and predictable to hear her name dropped for every female role in Hollywood. Does the public want to see her in almost every movie franchise? It's become like that Julia Roberts joke in "The Player".

Well, it wasn't Abrahms that denied it, it was Gosling's reps. But yeah, who knows. Just providing the latest update.

I know. I appreciate it too. I just take the rumors and the denials of the rumors with a huge grain of salt at this point. If Disney really is set to announce something at D23, they're not going to allow anyone involved to ruin the reveal.

I'd think we'd get something out of Celebration Europe this week since Kathleen Kennedy is there.

I'm glad to no Gosling but I will have faith in whoever is cast. I will most likely be completely blinded by excitement once more news starts to come out.

All these rumors... Just cast anyone who isn't Zac Efron and we're good.
