I'm pretty pleased with the news about being shot on 35mm. Simply put, I prefer the look of film. Not only that, but I'm also in the camp that believes actually shooting on film as opposed to digitally allows for a more thoughtful process of filmmaking. I see only positives in this, but I prefer the look and feel of film anyways.

Problem with film?? Haha. Check my post history.

EDIT- Plain and simple... I LOVE film! Digital can't replicate that look. Ever.

Ahhh. 'Twas just another out of context post. Is this just about JJ Abrams at the helm, or something?

I don't understand? It's about film being superior. Digital is too clean and fake looking. Film has a realistic look and an organic quality about it.

The only digital shot movie i like is Skyfall and that's because it sort of has film qualities about it.The Arri Alexia is a good camera. All the other digital shot movies look bad imo. Especially with the Red One.

OHHHHH! I thought you meant you were going to rage out or something, rather than jumping for joy. Boy, am I thick.

But yeah, film's better.

I can't imagine how bad of a move that would be for any franchise.

If this is going to be shot on film, then personally I hope they do not go for a 3D conversion. Why? Because it will be projected digitally at most cinemas, and 3D conversion will automatically downgrade the 2D version to 2-2.8K. This was my problem with Man of Steel. It was shot on film, and I could see the grain to prove it. Problem was, it didn't look like grain, rather static noise, to me because of the low resolution. I believe film, mastered in 2D at 4K for digital projection will solve this issue.

I love JJ, and I love lens flare, but I'm hoping it is not overused in this, in order to keep a true Star Wars look. I don't want him to not be himself, though. I just want this to feel like Star Wars and not like JJ. I think that's fair enough.

And some scenes in 15/70 wouldn't hurt... even though I'd never get to experience them properly...

I would assume c-3po and r2-d2 are gonna a be back for the next film. Are the actors who played them still alive and if so are they gonna be involved ? I can't really watch any Star Wars film without humorously enjoying the ( easily readable as homosexual) relationship between those two droids. If Kenny Baker is too old I hope they get someone else and at least get the same voice (Anthony Daniels?) For the voice. Also I really hope Warwick Davis is involved in the new film.

I think you can guarantee all of that, except for maybe Warwick Davis, but it would be nice! Are there Leprechauns in the Star Wars galaxy?

Yes, this whole campaign to please frustrated fanboys is getting excessive. Film vs digital is just a matter of personal preference. What's the next news going to be? The lenses that they are going to use? And how much it's going to be similar to the OT?

Since we're talking about this, I highly recommend the documentary Side by Side. I'm interested in the subject and figured it would be okayish and (host/interviewer) Keanu would be tolerable but the whole was really good.
That's a great documentary. And although I prefer film (except for specific purposes), digital cameras have indeed advanced a lot not only in resolution but in dynamic range as well. We've reached a point where one is not better than the other, both have their advantages. And there are some great quotes from the "pro-Digital" crowd.

I'm really happy they're shooting this in 35mm and using a lot of practical effects because it makes this film sound like it will be faithful to the original trilogy.

Well this certainly is surprising news. With this and using more practical effects, it looks like the filmmakers are trying to make it look as close as possible to the Original Trilogy which is very good news.

35mm film stock looks great.

If only the film format was the only possible issue a movie could have...

On another note why would they need to bring Kenny Baker back? I've never understood why there needed to be anyone at all inside R2.
