The Social Network, TGWTDT and Spiderman all look average. Flat and no texture at all.

Bye Bye Birdie destroys pretty much all digital shot films imo -

Pictures don't do it justice. Watching it is like having the actors right in front of you. Just an abundance of detail and realism.

I already mentioned Skyfall is the only digital shot film i like. And that's mainly because there's something about it that reminds me of film. I should thank Roger Deakins for that.

Speaking of; i found this article of him talking about film and digital-

http://www.hitfix.com/in-contention/...t-looking-back

Quote:
Right now I don’t see a reason to go back and shoot film," Deakins says. "And probably if I leave it much longer then I won’t have the opportunity, because it just won’t exist anyway."

Indeed, Deakins' switch came at a crucial crossroads in the industry. Kodak was on the way to being removed from the S&P 500 index (and facing imminent bankruptcy). Long-time champions of film, like Martin Scorsese, were reaching the end of their rope. An on-going debate on the benefits of celluloid vs. digital was erupting with marquee names in the world of film on both sides of the line.

For Deakins, though, as unexpected as the switch may have been from those on the outside looking in, it was an organic decision to adopt something that ultimately befits his work ethic.

For me it’s not that much different," he says. "I find that shooting digital seems to really work with the way I like to light. The learning curve was not that big, really. I mean obviously the processing side of it is slightly different. But once I start shooting I’m not really aware of the differences. And I felt I could play with things more in some of 'Skyfall,' because I could see with the optical viewfinder on set exactly what I was doing. It gave me more confidence to play, I think, than maybe if I was shooting film. It’s such a pressure on doing a big movie like that

And ultimately, he's not overly romantic about the loss of film. He says if anything he's a romanticist in the sense that it has its place in his own personal history, that he's happy he had the opportunity to shoot something like "True Grit" on film. "But to say I couldn’t have done it digitally and would it have looked that much different," he asks. "I don’t think so."

"He goes further, though. "I think digital is a better representation of reality than film," he says. "That’s not to say I don’t love film. I love the look of film, but film isn’t quite as sensitive in terms of its color depth, the color contrast. You get more subtleties than you do with film."

Obviously i don't agree with him on film and digital not being that different. Especially digital being a better representation of reality. I feel the complete opposite. But it's his job and he knows what he likes i guess.

It is not that film and digital are that different, digital is now a very suitable replacement for the 35mm standard. Ten years ago I would object to watching a digital presentation, today I have no problem with it. I accept it. As for film making, it is next to impossible to tell the difference. I will say that if there is a 35mm presentation, I would rather see it than a digital presentation.

When 35mm print distribution was at its best, we were seeing better copies of the print. It is just the last 10 or so years that were are seeing more 2K print outs from the DI and that combined with high speed printing. Even with the DI print out and the high speed printing, 35mm prints still look very good vs digital.

It was actually 5K, I believe.

The major reason why digital is popular now is because it's a lot easier and economical. With digital, we can skip the whole tedious telecine process and go straight to post production.

On a whole, looking from the big picture, digital cinematography has come a long way since Attack of the Clones. And there has been movies that are brilliantly shot digitally. But there is a certain magical look about shooting on film that will soon be lost.

I think four out of the last five Oscars for cinematography went to movies that were shot with digital camera.

The awards go to the prowess and creativity of the DOP. How he shoots to tell an effective storytelling. It goes way beyond the choice of cameras. How he angles his shots, how is it being lit, how he uses different colour to invoke different emotions. How he can engage the viewer creatively.

I'd say the last few awards were just coincidence that it was shot digitally. It was however, awarded based on genuine creativity.

Ok ,anyone going to have a guess at casting yet?
I read recently that Will Poulter was getting ready for a big movie that he can't talk about that is shooting next year.
I am aware that it could be any film but there's not many to my knowledge shooting next year that you could class as a big movie in London
He is in we're the millers now,he has history with Disney as he was in the last Narnia film.
No idea who he would or could play.

Even though he's just auditioning, it does appear JJ is going for a heartthrob.

also reports are saying Rachel Hurd-Wood is up for a role as well. She was in the most recent Peter Pan film and was great in PERFUME:The Story of a Murderer

"*Latino Review reports she’s up for the daughter of Princess Leia and Han Solo, a part that’s believed to be the true lead of the trilogy."

True. Transformers 4 will be the first film to use the IMAX digital 8K camera, and even then it is only for select sequences.

Shailene Woodley was recently announced as Mara Jade, but fan backlash quickly made them reconsider the role. Now they're looking at Kirsten Dunst...

both those actresses kinda suck. How can they even do Mara Jade as a younger actress and still have the character be a romantic lead for Mark Hamill. No way they do something like that.

Which is funny, since she was also cast as Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man 2 then cut... and who played Mary Jane in Raimi's Spider-Man films? Kirsten Dunst.
