I'd say they were. The plots and characters were what made the films hollow. What did you find worse? I'd like to say the acting but great actors like portman jackson and mcgregor can't be blamed. Lucas just isn't good with directing actors.

Marlon Brando, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Anthony Hopkins couldn't deliver the lines that Hayden Christiansen was given with straight faces. I do hope that the dialogue in these new films is better. Dialogue in porn is better than what was spoken by the actors in the prequels.

True, but Ian McDiarmid made his role absolute gold with his lines.

Well, I'd say that there are certainly other elements that come in to play other than the script for why Jar Jar Binks is so damn annoying. I'm sure C3P0 may seem to be annoying on paper, but it was how the character was handled through the actor, as well as design choice to why it wasn't the same case.
Other things of why they use certain effects over others. But to me it was the acting that was the worst. Natalie Portman certainly could have been better in the hands of another director. And both actors for Anakin were terrible, and he is the central character, whether he is on screen the whole time or not. Having Anakin fly into space due to autopilot? Yeah that was dumb, and the fault of the script, but it could have been a tolerable and somewhat well handled scene if he wasn't so damn annoying.

For the record though, I don't hate these movies, so I don't really think the scripts were terrible.

My point is that we waited 3 year for Attack of the Clones, and that wasn't much better.

lol, I blame that on Lucas's inability to direct anything.

on a technical standpoint it was gorgeous, but when Lucas insisted on directing everything himself AND writing the dialogue it was doomed.

And it comes from Lucas's constant need to keep remaking Return of the Jedi.

Not quite sure I understand the problem here. Let's throw everything on the table that we know.

1. Disney wants May 2015. It is still 2013 (for at least two months). Seems like we have time.

2. Script is being reworked, but no one knows if it is being polished or completely new. We do know the general story comes from Lucas, so I am guessing it is going to be polished. Seems pretty standard to me.

3. Filming is going to start in the early 2014. Let's say filming wraps in May or June of 2014. Are we to believe a movie cannot be edited in a year? This is 2013 (will in theory be 2014 when filming wraps), not 1977 or 1999. Effects can be edited faster today.

4. Casting hasn't been announced, but I highly doubt deals aren't in place. Those who are in the film have contracts signed by now. Disney is just waiting to let the public know. They are building up the anticipation.

5. As mentioned in an earlier post, Disney has deals with Pepsi, Hasbro and many other companies. They cannot push these back. It is BAD for business and the brand. Disney is, after all, about "brand."

I think because this is a Star Wars movie it is getting tons of attention and exposure. Superman vs. Batman and Avengers 2 are due out in 2015 and haven't started filming yet. Are we worried about them??? No.

Not worried about The Avengers 2 because Marvel has been planning for years. They have their act together over there.

People aren't worried about Batman and Superman? Since when?

And they already started filming some scenes from Batman and Superman last weekend.

One of the biggest problems is that Abrams doesn't want to move to the U.K. where the movie will be produced. Maybe overdrama was a bit in my post and calling it a con job was over the top but this isn't exactly Disney's fault. Disney is simply funding the movie and they also have to satisfy their investors.

I can't help but think that maybe this is poor planning on Kathleen Kennedy's part. If I were in her shoes and I agreed to a certain release date in order to get Disney to go along with my plan, I would need a way to delay the production so that I could ask the studio for more time. It just seems like this is what she did in that Michael Arndt left as the scriptwriter and that either Kennedy herself or someone close to her tossed out two different stories.

One news story is reporting that the script was so unusable that they had to start over from scratch. The other story is that the rumors aren't true about the "unusable" script and that they are moving forward. This has probably accounted for Disney's inability to move the release date.

Disney spent a lot of money to acquire Lucasfilm and they have to justify that purchase to stockholders. Stockholders want to see returns on Disney's investment and that's putting pressure on Disney execs. Those same stockholders don't care about excuses being floated by Kennedy and either she needs to bring more people in to move production forward, tell Disney that it can't be done without moving the release date or step down.

Kennedy has a choice to make and that she either needs to pass on Star Wars Episode VII and hand it off to someone else or she needs to hire more people to help with the script and the pre-production. Disney puts out a lot of quality movies and they are sticklers for getting their movies, television shows and animation out in a timely manner. JJ Abrams shares this philosophy with Disney as his interests are aligned with Disney.

I just think that Kennedy may have taken on a lot more than she could handle.

Kennedy has taken more than she can handle or she actually has the best interests of the project in mind? Disney stockholders should know that their investment in Star Wars will pay off. If Kennedy is thinking about making a quality product, then I hope she fights tooth and nail with Disney.

She'll run screaming back to Spielberg any minute now.
