Jar Jar posessed by the Emperor ghost? Why so he can zap himself with lightning bolts?

As for JJ screwing up SW. Look what he did for Star Trek. Yeah the first one was a little out of whack but 2 was good.

It's official -- LucasFilm will ignore the pre-existing EU for future SW films.

my guess is casting announcements are forthcoming and the death of the EU is to get people who are attached to that fiction ready for some changes to the Skywalker and Solo lineages.

I feel sorry for Kenny Baker having to possibly work with Anthony Daniels again.

Kenny Baker won't be in R2D2 - he's 80 years old! They don't need him - plus, do you think the insurance company wants to risk him dying in there? Maybe they'll make him an Ewok council leader or a Jawa.

The situation with the Expanded Universe is a bit more complex than simply getting completely axed. Lucasfilm has reclassified the EU, previously a lesser tier of canonicity below the films, and rebranded it as an alternate universe under the "Legends" banner. It still exists and maintains its internal consistency, but for the purposes of the films themselves the EU does not need to be followed, particularly post-RotJ material (this last point I feel is the only place where things might be ambiguous: is it the EU as a whole or just the New Republic era and onward which is being ignored?).

Lucasfilm has also stated that new EU material released in the future will occupy the same canonicity level as the previous EU, effectively taking it's place.

TL;DR: The old EU is now an AU and there's a new EU.

Kenny and Warwick should get huge roles in these films not all covered up in makeup or costumes. They were such an important element in fantasy films of the 1980s that they should both get some big roles like Sith or some bad-ass villains.

LOL, just read the news about the EU. Not surprising, but still, talk about a middle finger to fans.

To be honest, the Thrawn trilogy has always been more canon to me than the prequels. They certainly feel more like Star Wars.

In other words, Disney/Lucasfilm:

Holy shit, I agree 100% with a nagysaudio post! Mark this day down, folks! I'm pretty sure this is one of the seven signs of the apocalypse or something.

If nagysaudio is anything to do with it, one of the signs will be James Cameron emerging from the ocean on a pseudopod steed, wielding a Pulse Rifle at all the people that say he directed Piranha 2: The Spawning ...

I read that JJ wants to use less CGI in this film. Maybe one of them could play Ghost Yoda.

And you know what, those books still exist and you can still read and enjoy them. DC has done this kind of thing a couple of times and it doesn't make those back issues any less worthwhile. A good story is a good story whether it's considered canon or not.

I agree 100%, but it's pretty dishearening to know none of it will be appearing in the new films.

But there's really no saying that it won't. The prequels took stuff from the EU and incorporated it in new ways, so I'm sure the new trilogy will as well. They can use whatever they want, so who's to say what will or won't show up?

I actually meant to say "might not" be appearing in the new films, instead of "will not". Obviously it's all specualtion, at this point...and I'll remain hopeful. I just find it kind of funny, that the script is having all these "problems" and they have a revolving door of writers when there is already a fantastic 7/8/9 script floating around: it's called the Thrawn Trilogy.
