Default it's official!!!!

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Very cool. Serkis gets to be in both Rings and Star Wars is almost as crazy as Abrams being able to direct both this and Trek. It's going to be so cool to see Hamill, Ford, and Fisher together again.

I absolutely 100% approve!!!
Domnhall Gleeson did a great job in About Time, John Boyega was impressive in Attack the Block, Oscar Isaac is always solid, and Andy Serkis and Max Von Sydow? Both always awesome. Not too familiar with Adam Driver except for a small role in Inside Llewyn Davis (with Oscar Isaac, coincidentally) or Daisy Ridley.

In all seriousness, I hope you guys enjoy the upcoming episodes in Star Wars. I just can't get on this train anymore.

I love my Episodes I-VI as it...the Skywalker Saga.

I hope diehard OT fans get what they didn't get with the Prequels.

I kind of agree, but I'll take as much Star Wars as I can, even though Lucas is not (directly) behind it and Anakin's story is over. The desire to see more of this universe has not dwindled one bit since childhood.

Like the cast except for Boyega and Driver. Can't wait for filming to commence.

I would've been on board if it was a trilogy that dealt with the Jedi Sith Wars before the Republic. That I could've watch.

I just can't watch this. I don't care if Lucas originally had planned 12 episodes. To me, it doesn't feel right without him leading the ship. Frankly, it doesn't feel right after the ending of Return of the Jedi.

That's just me. I'll be on an island on this one while everyone basks in the euphoria that is new Star Wars films come next December.

Abrams has his loyal fans and the ones who dis his directing. Arguments are still being made on how well/bad he handled Star Trek 1 & 2.O respectively, as a kid who grew up with the original trilogy I am confident he will bring that magic back to this franchise. The fact that he got Harrison Ford who for years never spoke highly of his Han Solo character is back says something of how good the script must be. Ford takes his work serious. On the flip side of the casting announcement, I gotta wonder what the hell happened to Lando, unless he's not part of Episode VII.

I am now excited (even though I hate, loathe and despise Abrams Star Trek films) and can't wait for this. In a perfect world Disney and Fox will work out a deal to release the OOT before the release of this film and the new trilogy will piggy back off it so I can pretend the prequels never happened.

Maybe Boyega is his grandson.

Nope. Not for me.

Let me ask you something, do you really want Hayden Christensen to show up as a Force Ghost in these new episodes, if this is still to be the Skywalker Saga?

No way they continue that family saga and Hayden didn't at least cameo to talk to Luke.

So again, you want Hayden back? I loved most of his work in the Prequels but again, I'm alone on that one.

You'll be there opening weekend. Don't lie to yourself.

The Star Wars universe and mythology is too large a canvas for artists to paint on to limit to just one six part story on film. If this film didn't include Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, etc. then I would probably be with on this, but I'm just really excited to see this and I think it's too early to write it off for the reasons you listed.
