The Star Wars universe and mythology is too large a canvas for artists to paint on to limit to just one six part story on film. If this film didn't include Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, etc. then I would probably be with on this, but I'm just really excited to see this and I think it's too early to write it off for the reasons you listed.
Serious as a heart attack, no I won't. It's like that scene from Godfather Part III..."Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in..."

Not this time. My wife and I have had plenty of conversations about this. She's trying to guilt trip me into taking my boys to see this. My oldest likes Star Wars now after showing him the films so he really wants to see this new film.

Their mother will have to take them. I'm the party pooper.

It's just a movie, man. That's going to be a great moment for you and your kids, taking them to see their first Star Wars film on the big screen. Don't pass that up. You're going to watch it eventually, so why not watch it under the best possible conditions, with your children and a bunch of fans who may or may not be dressed up like Boba Fett.

Stop feeding the beast.
Yes, 99.9% of the films I see are just movies. Except for Star Wars. There's only one perfect film in the history of cinema and that's Episode IV.

Seriously though, it will be a moment for the boys and I'm sure I'll eventually crack but it's going to take A LOT!

I know he's satan to a lot of cinema fans but I don't think people understand the genius that is Lucas, what he meant to this story, what it meant to him and his important to the advancement in cinema.

Stylistically, the way the Star Wars films are composed is very, very important.

JJ has that in him but I just don't see his tendencies not being apart of this. I still think he's the perfect choice for this but hell, I'd rather him remake the Prequels than do sequels if I'm honest.

There's just something about going past that last shot of Return of the Jedi that bugs the shit out of me. Caps the Saga beautifully. Why mess with it, besides the usual answer; money?

I'm sure people will call this blasphemy, but I think these at least have the potential to be better than the originals... and this coming from someone who has been an insane fan of SW since its original 1977 release.
Abrams is a better director than Lucas (and Kirscher and Marquand were basically his puppets - Lucas essentially directed those), and he made what are easily the two best Trek films. Williams is back doing the music, state of the art FX, a strong cast....

The next 20 months will be exciting but torturous.

Glad to see that the cast has finally be revealed.

I know it's going to take place many years after the events of Episode VI, so I'm curious how the story will be like.

Perhaps there's a new evil that will require Luke, now a Jedi master, to train a new slew of soldiers in the fight against evil.

If it makes you feel better....this new trilogy is based off of George's own vision. He came up with the skeleton of the new movies, its up to JJ to add the flesh.

No. Just, no. Abrams has yet to find his voice as a director. M:I-3 was an extra large episode of Alias. Star Trek was...Trek meshed with Star Wars. Super 8 was trying very hard to be suburban Spielberg from the early 80's. He's the best journeyman director on the market right now, but he doesn't have a lot of personality in his work the way that Lucas or Spielberg or Scorsese have. The more I think about it, the more right I think he is for this considering he'll be trying to keep the style consistent with the rest of the Saga and he's a bigger fan of Wars than Trek..

Don't you think it's a little silly, if not childish to boycott a movie you haven't even seen the first trailer for?

I agree and disagree with all this, just because I like that he's a journeyman director that can emulate the likes of other directors, but I also think he has his own style and voice at the same time, which we see at times in the new 'Trek' films, even though they're very 'Star Wars' in nature. I think we've seen in more in his TV work, such as the pilot of 'LOST'. But I completely understand what you're saying at the same time, because he spends so much time trying to emulate others, we really haven't seen him just make an Abrams movie. Once he does, then we can talk about it. But until then, he's a great director at creating the feeling of directors that came before, which is why I think it's important that he's doing Episode VII, because it'll feel like the original trilogy.

Boom! This is what I'm talking about. I like Abrams as a person and as a director but this...so much. On point. Nail on head. Choose a phrase.

Absolutely on that last part. As for the first part, well, even if his visions arent his own personality, he's great at what he is doing. MI3 and 4 (which he produced) were far better than the first two, and he took Trek to a whole new (much much better) level of fun and excitement. Super 8 I would agree was trying to be early Spielberg, but he largely succeeded. I think it would have been a GREAT film if it just focused on the kids and their filmmaking and such, and had no alien plot.

It's not a boycott. I'm not telling others not to see it.

I just can't. Diehard Star Wars fan of the films since I was 3. I should be through the roof about this news. I just love the Saga as presently constructed. It's complete, to me.

That's the only way I can say it.
