I feel the same, I expect us to get a few one-movie villains too (hopefully executed better than the likes of Maul and Grievous), but at least one new Vader-type villain who lasts throughout the trilogy would be nice. I think we'll probably get a new Palpatine-type evil mastermind as well.

Hopefully things will be better but with them having different directors for each film, I am not so sure it will happen as you don't want to be stuck with another film's villian so I could see it being a different once each movie. Wait and see. Strangely, I am not nearly as excited about this film as I should be.
The bolded part brings to mind Jabba, who was talked about in two movies before finally appearing in the third. Goes to show the villains were just handled better overall in the OT, really.

I don't know if this is the case, it could be right, but if so it was a bad decision I feel. Having created a big, iconic villain in the past is no reason to not try and make your new villains memorable.

Jabba is a really good example - by the time you actually see him, you already know he is a dangerous creature so they don't need to waste time in the movie telling you how dangerous it is to try and rescue Han from his palace, you already know. I would like that for these next films - you can have your guest villian for each film but I want them to be talking about how Villian X is pulling the strings and you build it up in the first 2 films so you can have this major confrontation in the 3rd.

The other part of that is if Luke does that, what does Leia do? Since she is his twin, she can't just sit on the sideline so either she goes through the same thing or she is at peace in which case she try to train Luke. I don't know, not really looking forward to a Luke/Leia lightsaber battle Wait and see, they might surprise me. The lack on real info leaking out really makes all this just guessing at what they might do.
That's why I said "essentially" he's been created by the Sith, because if it wasn't for Anakin being created out of the ether then Luke certainly wouldn't exist, no matter that his momma's all natural.

As for Leia, she isn't the same person as Luke, so why would she react in the exact same way? While she would undoubtedly be disturbed by it, as anyone would, it's not intrinsically linked to her 'faith', unlike Luke. Even if Leia's taken up using the Force in the intervening years, I doubt she's become a 'saber wielding badass in the meantime, so you won't have to worry about a Luke vs Leia faceoff.

And of course this is all just guessing! It's the internet man, it's what it's there for.

I understand it's not a good way to handle villains, but looking at the bigger picture ultimately the saga is about the Skywalker family, their origins and their connections to Sith. Vader is the most important character in the whole saga, even after his death I would presume.

Switching AR Star Wars. That's gonna feel weird. I hope the wipe transition edits will still be used.

I had a feeling that IMAX and/or 3D would have a part to play in the new movie. IMAX because JJ's head over heels in love with it, and 3D because Disney want those extra few dollars. (I know they haven't said anything about 3D yet, but give it time)

Don't get me wrong, I have no doubts about it. Films shot with IMAX are just stunning. Only we never had switching aspect ratio on Star Wars before. Star Wars has always been 2.35:1, I guess I have to get used to it and let go the tradition.

It's been reported that it will get a 3D conversion in post.

A big "meh" from me.

There are so few "real" IMAX venues out there. I don't find digital IMAX ("liemax" as some call it) very impressive, especially since a lot of them turn the volume up to painfully distorted levels.

You won't get 7.1 or Atmos in IMAX.

Then the Blu-ray...will it get a switching AR release? Will we have to buy multiple versions like Star Trek: Into Darkness?

Sigh.

But isnt a plus for imax is that the imax scenes look even better than the non imax scenes on a bluray.

So it's getting partially shot on IMAX with the rest of the footage being shot on 35mm film.

Awesome!

Switching aspect ratios will work really well if the new movie contains the traditional scene transition wipes etc.
