Hans Zimmer (Dark Knight trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) is a great composer, and I think he would be the best replacement (if need be).
I thought Gladiator was his best work.

To me episode VI was the definitive conclusion to a great saga.
I thought the same too until I read the expanded universe novels and forgot there were still renments of The Empire.

JJ Abrams will be directing a Star Wars movie, if not the whole damn trilogy. This guy has let it be known about his love for Star Wars. Hell, just watch his Star Trek reboot and you can see how much he loves it. He basically remade Episode IV with that film (still trying to figure out how he got away with that one...).

If not Abrams, it'll be Favreau.

Liam Neeson was one of the best things about the prequels so I'd love to see him as a force ghost.

or even better yet what about a set of films about young han solo starring orlando bloom. that would be cool?
I'm sure we'd all love to see Orlando Bloom play Han Solo.

I now have fresh hopes for Underworld. If anyone can finance the show, it's Disney.

For now, I'm going to refer to these as Episodes VII, VIII, and IX but I'm not so certain we're getting an actual sequel trilogy per se. I think an aged Master Skywalker in a Batman Beyond scenario with a new dark threat looming in the galaxy is the likiest we'll get of a sequel trilogy but I could see "The Yoda Years" or do The Old Republic.

Either way, I want this lineup:

Episode VII - Directed by Steven Spielberg
Episode VIII - Directed by Guillermo Del Toro
Episode IX - Directed by Brad Bird

Disney aren't just planning on releasing a trilogy, though - they want to release a new SW film every 2-3 years, which will try to cover the whole 20,000 year universe. That basically means that they'll release 'em until no one goes to watch them any more.

I'm not sure that JJ Abrams will direct any of these - sure, it would be nice - but he has a lot going on at the moment, especially with Star Trek 2, so he probably doesn't have the time to deal with something that needs lots of care and attention.
Brad Bird would be an awesome choice. He really surprised me with Ghost Protocol.

I'm sorry but, these are not the actors you are looking for
Because people in the SW universe don't age? With the correct timeline I really don't see why they couldn't be in at least the first one.

Lucas is 68. While he could easily live another 20 years (assuming he's not ill), he probably also thought that if he dies before he sells the company, the future of the company would be in question (and probably litigation) for years. It leaves a mess for his kids. This way, everything is tidied up.

Also, Kathleen Kennedy probably wanted to make more movies and not just handle merchandising deals. I bet she also pushed him to make a deal. She's becoming the CEO of Lucasfilm.

Also, who knows how long this deal was in the works? I wondered in another post whether this deal was in the works when Steve Jobs was still alive. Jobs actually owned a majority of Disney by virtue of his selling Pixar to Disney. Although Jobs' widow is not on Disney's Board I believe that she owns enough stock to have had to approve this deal, although her stock will be diluted as a result of the shares being issued to Lucas. What hasn't been said is whether Lucas gets a seat on Disney's Board. My bet is that he does.
It's definitely an idea - Lucas, knowing he doesn't have much time left, passes on the complete work of his life to Disney. Like you say, he's probably just given up; hell, at 68, I doubt I'd be bothered much with something as big and consuming as Star Wars.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of Lucas, he does deserve our respect - he has been important and influential in cinema's history, and SW really marked a new turning point in the ambition that director's could have (well, until Heaven's Gate, when Cimino kind of put that to bed...). I don't like what he did to the films but, then again, they were his ideas and he could do what he liked to them -- I just don't agree with him not giving the choice to fans for which version they wanted released. Anyway, sentimentality can do strange things to someone, so I'm ending this post now

No it wasnt. Article states the Indy franchise is wrapped up in paramount and not part of the valuation of this deal.

Wow only 9 pages to catch up on, after last night....THAT'S WEAK!!!
Come on people I thought there would be 50 pages of reading this morning...gheeesh!

Just to weigh in on the director speculation, after having just watched Prometheus last week, I'm all for Ridey Scott to helm this. I think he could give SW just enough edge and still keep it kid friendly. I think that's a slim chance, at best. Ditto for all the other big names being tossed around.
Filoni would be a great choice!
