Its the 30 year time gap that has me baffled as to how the Empire will be involved, remnants or not.

I suspect however that like the Clones were used by the Republic, the "stormtroopers" of Ep VII will be part of the heroes set-up rather than the villains and perhaps used as a UN style military force, maybe volunteers or something like that. It doesn't sound like the Jedi have been reestablished from what we are hearing or seeing, though until we know what roles the new cast are going to play it is tough to know.

Throwing this out there, how keen would people be on seeing the Jedi, or the reestablishment of the Jedi being a focal point of the new series ? Perhaps in interesting contrast to the Jedi of the prequels ?

I'd be down for it, especially if it's about a debate of philosophy over what the Order's place should be in this new society.

Holy crap! The bottom just fell out of JJ Abrams "Mystery Box"! Head over to Latino Review or your favorite similar site for the run down.

I don't know if we need to spoiler tag this stuff or not in subsequent discussions, but I will just in case. I've been digging almost everything I've read or seen, but I'm still a bit leery about two things:

[Show spoiler]The first being the Luke lightsaber MacGuffin and the second beinf Luke held captive by the Inquisitors. They'd better come up with organic reasons why either of these plot devices exist especially a good reason for keeping Luke alive, or they're going to seem forced.

If any of it is true at all...

[Show spoiler]Maybe the most logical reason why the Inquisitors are keeping Luke alive is simply because they are inquiring about something. Afterall, that's what inquisitors do.

Man, that's kinda boring. It had better be an awesome secret their trying to ferret out if that's the case.

They were called Imperial Dignitaries by Kenner, in what had to be an interesting production meeting. "Hey, we need to make another wave of Return of the Jedi figures. What about the purple geriatrics hanging out with the Emperor for .6 seconds when the shuttle landed on the Death Star. Genius, kids love action figures of old people that walk around looking like their space Depends are filled to capacity"!

Anyway, I think you could make the case those guys could be retconed into inquisitors, sure.

Dunno, it might give me bad flashbacks of reading the Jedi Academy books. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

This link is more relevant than those genre tabloids.

I too believe these "Storm troopers" to be Republic forces like they used to be.

Hmmm. If there's even a grain of truth to the latino review "spoilers", it seems as if the new movies will do just as much retconning as the others...

Congratulations on that whole 'not hoovering up every scrap of info' plan.

How long did that last? Two days?

Possible SPOILERS!

First Look At STAR WARS VII Main Villain

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit...news/?a=106102

Besides rumors, I wouldn't believe everything that leaks as being true even if confirmed. They could just be red herrings. Remember, this movie is being made by the guy that kept denying Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness (and I so wanted to believe him, because I didn't want Khan -- I wanted Gary Mitchell!)

Yeah, you're right, we should definitely continue discussing Episode III's storytelling failings in the Episode VII thread instead.

They're also visible in one scene in the throne room, so it's actually closer to 1.2 seconds, which is definitely deserving of an action figure.
