With as much respect and love I have for Han Solo, I actually like Malcolm Reynolds more.

I think it's due to Mal been fleshed-out more with a longer screen-time and character development. Han Solo is just awesome on a superficial level even if he's far more well known. Of course the new trilogy can expand on his potential a whole lot more!

I think you mean the sequels; Lucas wrote "Phantom Menace" and "Revenge of the Sith" himself, collaborating with Jonathan Hales on "Attack of the Clones".

I wonder if Jonathon Hales or Lucas is responsible for the atrocious dialogue in Clones?

I loved Mal but Han still wins pretty handily (though turning him into a Gilmore Girl in Jedi certainly didn't help).

While Mal and Han were arguing over who the bigger bad ass is James T. Kirk took Inara and Princess Leia back to his quarters and made passionate love to them both.

And if Hales isnt responsible for the dialog, then just what the hell did he contribute exactly? If I was "script-doctoring" that thing, the dialog would have been the first thing to come up on my list of revisions.

Maybe it was far, far worse originally

I think it illustrates that part of the problem with the prequels is that Lucas had too many ass-kissing "yes men" around him. There was no one their to call Lucas out on all the bullshit. Everyone was either drunk off of just getting to work on the projects and kissed Lucas' ass or they were too scared to dare question anything Lucas did.

Jonathan Hales contribution is large enough to get a screenplay credit.

But then again for Empire Leigh Brackett was credited for the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan when it should be him and Lucas. Lucas wanted to honor her, no problems with that but my point is you'll never know.

The only person I got that vibe from was Rick McCallum; everyone else seemed perfectly willing to question Lucas. Whether he accepted their views or not is another matter.

I haven't seen a lot of interviews with Gary Kurtz, but it seems he was McCallum's opposite regarding Lucas. McCallum said "yes" most of the time, while it appears Kurtz said "no" to the same extreme. I read that he and Lucas had a major fallout several years ago, which makes me wonder why Kennedy and Abrams brought him back for "Episode VII".

Gary Kurtz isn't working on Episode VII. He's not listed on IMDB as working on it anyway.

Opposites usually work best when collaborating. They don't last long together (hence Lennon and McCartney) mind you but if it were not for those two opposing each other we would not have the greatness of American Graffiti, Star Wars and TESB.

My bad; I got the wrong impression from Elvis mentioning Kurtz.
