Yes, but your logic is flawed there: Disney acquired Marvel but have utilised a hands-off approach, allowing Marvel to do their own thing. If they do that with Lucas, he'll end up being the creative force behind these releases - and, judging by your comment, you didn't like the last trilogy he did. If they don't use a hands-off approach, and get more involved in the process, we risk having a completely watered down, very child-friendly concept shining through, ruining the more adult nature of the original trilogy.

I think Disney will make good decisions on this but Lucas is still where the creative locus lies, which may anger some fans.

They could but the problem lies more in the technicalities than simply issuing something like that. Disney don't have complete control over all of Marvel's characters, even though they own them outright - Marvel would need to agree to do that before Disney could decide to. Similarly, Kennedy and Lucas would need to agree with it before Disney could just do it on that end.

All I'm saying is...don't get your hopes up

as far as I read, Lucas is staying on as creative control on star wars films? I reckon we wont get a disney film, it will be like marvel movies, more hands off. We will get the star wars film that would have been made even if lucas didnt sell rights over to disney.

This is how I would love to see the continuing saga:

I think the story will take place somewhere 20 to 40 years after Return of the Jedi. Luke starts new Jedi academy, and now is rebuilding the Jedi for the New Republic. Leia is Chancellor of the New Republic, and Han and Lando are running emissary missions to bring more Star Systems under the New Republic. Han and Leia have kids, who are now extremely powerful Jedi's on their first missions for the republic. The story will follow their path. With the original characters being more or less cameos.

Hope full titles:

Episode VII - Heir to the Empire
Episode VIII - Return of the Sith
Episode IX - Dark Empire

He's been taken on as Creative Consultant but whether that means he has something to do with the production of the films and wasn't just something said by Disney to keep Star Wars fans excited remains to be seen. I know that he probably will be heavily involved in the writing of the scripts, but whether he has any creative input on set will be seen closer to the time of release.

I'm hoping it's more like Marvel, but that they are involved to some degree - Disney has the right mentality for SW as far as I'm concerned, and Lucas meeting with that could produce something brilliant.

This is such an oxymoron! Hilarious and so sad at the same time.

Have you read some of the posts on here? Some people have come out with great lines like "I love the original SW but hate Lucas being involved in these new ones". People claim to be fans of the series but hate everything that Lucas has done - my comment was about this.

But I stand by the statement that Disney and Lucas meeting can create something spectacular.

What they need to fast-track into production is The Star Wars Halloween Holiday Special!

Yeah I want Lucas heavily involved...I mean I dont want him to direct but whatever anyone says, the man is highly creative.

I just have one question -
Will John Williams be back and if he won't be, will it still be 'Star Wars'?

Haha, that always cracks me up. They want to burn him down, his family, kill his dog.. then they go on to praise Star Wars.

I myself am still up in the air on this.

I love the UOT
enjoy the SE and PT as well.

The issue is what Kevin Smith said when he was offered a chance for the live action series. At first he was giddy about it, then backed down. The reason he backed down is because Star Wars fans are the most Rabbid fans ever. A director must be willing to suffer some severe fan boy backlash, especially if he is a fanboy himself. Imagine being the new guy to make an awful Star Wars film.

No Gore Verbinski, he just finished POTC 5: The Lone Ranger.
No Nolan we don't need the realism and depth.

I am very excited by this news! I always wished we'd get to see what Lucas had planned for Episodes 7, 8, and 9. I never thought it would happen. I think it's encouraging that the press release said Disney purchased Lucas' treatments for the new trilogy. I'd like to see Luke as the Obi-Wan with the new Jedi Academy on Yavin 4. I agree about the villain. It's got to be epic like Vader or Maul. Maul was good in appearance and the lightsaber battle, but underdeveloped as a character (until Clone Wars). Hopefully the new villain is great too. I think it makes sense to pick up after Jedi, because it's not logical to think that just because the Emperor died, the Empire is just suddenly gone.

I'm also worried about the Clone Wars show because Disney does not like having properties not under its control. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is a great show that's on Disney XD but it's made by a different company, so Disney has canceled it and is replacing it with their own Avengers show. I hope that Clone Wars doesn't get canceled before its intended ending.

Having said that, I'm dreaming of a Clone Wars-type show set between Episodes 3 and 4 with Pixar-level animation. Or an animated Shadows of the Empire.

Yeah, the dark side they have joined long ago.

I am cautiously optimistic about all this. It could be fantastic, as Lucasfilm still controls SW, and I trust Kathleen Kennedy is going to be very respectful to what Lucas has created.

Also, ILM is going to do SW forever. I don't want other VFX houses to touch SW, as they are a huge part of the SW saga. They are the magicians behind it.

This has always been hanging over our shoulders like a dark looming cloud, but now...or whatever Lando was saying.

I really hope he will. John Williams is one of the main contributors.

One more reason to have Steven Spielberg direct the next Episode, as he always has John W. as his collaborator.

Although I'm still sceptical after hearing the news yesterday, i think i would be happier to hear that someone like JJ Abrams was directing. As much as Nolan is great he's not the man for the job. I wonder what Spielberg would do differently...

Maybe you're right. Star Trek '09 has got an evil empire, mystic powered monks, space fighters attacking a globe of doom, cloaked dwarfs in the desert, a John Williams score, talking robots, a roguish space pirate with a seven foot tall sidekick, bounty hunters, a princess...

Oh, wait. Nevermind.

The similarities between Star Trek 2009 and A New Hope are uncanny.
These are just a few off the top of my head:

1)Kirk playing with a toy Enterprise aspiring for something greater / Luke playing with a toy Imperial Shuttle aspiring for something greater.
2)Kirk looking at the USCSS Enterprise before enlisting / Luke looking at the binary sunset.
3)Luke's ship is about to be shot by Vader, the Millennium Falcon arrives just in time to save him / Spock is about to be shot by Nemo, the Enterprise arrives just in time to save him.
4)Medal scene at the end.

Oh, I got one more:
Both Luke and Kirk are motivated into taking an initiative by the other party (Obi Wan/Captain Pike) using the protagonist's father as inspiration.
