Yes, it was legendary cinema. The reveal was jaw dropping at the time.

But to think that type of reveal or that type of epic moment can NEVER happen again is, quite frankly, awfully depressing.

I'm taking what C3P0 says with a grain of salt, and secretly hoping he's right. I want to be blown away like I was when I first saw TESB. I want something--need something--better, because I'm 34 years older, and far more cynical than I was then, and it takes more to impress me now.

Not to mention, I'm hoping to feel the same way about Star Wars again as I did in 1980 because my inner child is positively craving it.

Possible MAJORS SPOILERS regarding Luke Skywalker

http://http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/nailbiter111/news/?a=110630

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
I’m told that in the back story for the film, Luke Skywalker does something amazing with the Force. He’s really powerful, more of “wizard than lightsaber wielding warrior.” Basically, Luke Skywalker has a “Force Unleashed” moment and realizes he might be bad for the universe. The aftermath of that event is difficult for Luke.

Luke Skywalker has become the most powerful Jedi ever, but he doesn’t believe he’s the wisest. He doesn’t want to make the mistake his father made by thinking he knows what’s right for the universe. Skywalker becomes somewhat deranged in his seclusion. He is consumed by his fear that if he should return to “society” his power could be misused, he could be manipulated, and he may accidentally hurt the one’s he loves.

For these reasons, to protect the galaxy and himself, Luke retreats into self-imposed exile for many years. I’m told he can’t always control the power. While he sits in a meditative state, he levitates things unconsciously and he’s not always in complete control and he’s never sure if he’s doing the will of the Force or acting on his own passions. Luke is seeing the past, the present, the future, “old friends long gone” and other things that prey upon his sanity.

Luke Skywalker is described as “creepy and frightening in appearance” because you supposedly can see “the fire in his eyes” behind his grizzled appearance during some scenes.

Whether or not this is true, I don't know. Whether or not I agree with this direction, or in the end I'll like it, I'm not sure. But one thing I personally find interesting about all this is that THIS is similar to the story concept I wanted to see with STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Instead of JJ Abrams revamping Khan, I wanted to see him introduce the character Gary Mitchell (from the classic ST episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before"), who
[Show spoiler]becomes corrupted by omnipotent Godlike power
. It seems JJ Abrams was saving this idea for Star Wars in case he ever got his hands on it... in which he has.

We'll I like that rumor a lot better than the one where he
[Show spoiler]turns to the dark side. That just seems like a massive retread of the Anakin story plus I feel that it undermines the events in Return of the Jedi.

With internet leaks and fan-craze interest, it is going to be hard to get away with it. Just imagine if the internet was around when The Empire Strikes Back was released -- that big reveal would not have had the same impact.

This is why I believe that all this new stuff about Luke may not be true at all, and that it's all just a bunch of red herrings made up by the powers that be to throw us off the truth.

Star Wars was not on JJ's radar when prepping Star Tek Into Darkness, and George Lucas mapped out all three of the 7, 8, and 9 plotlines before the sale to Disney, and the screenplay for 7 was being fashioned by Arndt and Kasdan before Abrams was hired to direct.

I like it too.
[Show spoiler]I've said before how I wouldn't mind it at all if he went bad, but doing it that way - making him the most powerful mentally-ill hobo in the universe - means that they could possibly have him do some 'bad' shit and because he doesn't truly mean it, it won't devalue the integrity of the character that people regard so highly. Very clever.

I think it could turn out to be a brilliant examination of the Star Wars mythos, i.e. what would happen to one of these guys if they really did attain that much power? Is that what drives the Sith to become these crazed guys (with their 'rule of two') in the first place, that if left unchecked this power is too much for mere mortals to handle which is why they always end up wanting to kill the other?

That sounds 100% like a pulpy Lucas title, so it's got to be legit.

What's Episode VIII gonna be? Attack of The Force? The Force Strikes Back?

Awakens who? That is almost as bad as Into Darkness. You are in space, it is always dark! I know who awakens - the fans when they realise the movie sucks and that they have been suckered once again!

If only it was called The Dark Side Rises, then you could moan that he copied Nolan again

The 'awakening' has a double meaning for the franchise in general IMO. They're really selling the fact that this is a return to the SW universe that the fanboys love and not Lucas' tainted prequels, i.e. it's a (re)awakening of that aspect of SW.

I like the title. Seems appropriate, especially if the rumors of
[Show spoiler]Luke having gone into exile for many years
are true. Something will happen early in the film that will set the course for a new generation of Jedi - which we've known since they announced the film, and the name is kind of broad enough and not too revealing, just like the rest of the titles.
