If so we already know the ending to this trilogy.

I just hope fans can be entertained, but I am sure those same fanatics that found reasons to hate the new movies will be able to find the reasons to hate the 'Disney' Star Wars movies.
I think it would be very short sighted of Disney to also ignore this great story. There are a lot of elements which work really well in these stories. For example, Thrawn as a villain was brilliant.

You're just coming on strong, bro. I guess we're all passionate about this in our own ways though.

Sorry if I came off a little like an a-hole. I guess I'm passionate too.

The Marvel universe is releasing one or two movies a year and has been doing ok. I'm pretty sure the Star Wars universe can handle one movie every 2 or 3 years.
It's not like they have to stick with the main characters for all of them. There are plenty of great secondary characters and new stuff from the expanded universe books that can stand on its own. As long as they avoid any of the formulaic crap that Kevin J Anderson wrote they should do ok.

Lucas killed Star Wars with the prequels and his revisionism, this is a chance to bring quality back to the series.

Latest is Ridley Scott to direct Ep. VII. Come to find out that Jar Jar is, in fact, an Engineer! Never saw that coming.

The universe is so broad that they wouldn't even have to stick to secondary characters all the way through - if they release new ones every 2-3 years, they should be looking at simply expanding everything as much as they can. It could be like the Marvel universe whereby you focus on some characters in one or two films, then some more, and eventually they all come together kind of thing. The possibilities are (almost) endless for this series, I just hope they go the right way with it.

And if they don't, what are you going to do about it?

As for this "Episode VII" thing, why do this in 2015? If you want it done right, why not spend at the most 5 years to develop it? What's the rush? If you put them out quickly, there is a possibility they will just be sloppy. Take the time, do the job right, and all the angry fans (a.k.a the whiny nerds living in their mother's basement) won't have reason to *****.

Who said they aren't taking their time? They announced they already purchased Lucas original treatments so they already have a jumping off point.
This announcement came out of the blue, but I am sure someone was working on this behind the scenes for who knows how long.

The Edge... it's not like these are being quickly developed. Did you watch the Lucas interviews?

He's been working on treatments for the follow-up Trilogy for years. Even had meetings with Kathleen Kennedy about this long before the sale to Disney. So they have all that work already ready to start moving forward on. They've already been sitting down with other writers and potential directors.

Yes, it seems like things are progressing quickly. But getting the film out by 2015 shouldn't be a problem.

Especially since the other Star Wars films were made on the same schedule of every three years.

What i expect from episode 7, 8 and 9 is that they will not be based on any EU material, and i wouldn't be surprised if they disregard it all together.

I hope they do disregard most of the EU. A lot of it is pretty mediocre, and like Lucas I don't consider it "Official Canon".

Even the excellent stuff like the Thrawn Trilogy and Dark Empire has some pretty bad aspects. Like super weapons like the Galaxy Gun and Sun Crushers (Or whatever they were called) that make the Death Stars look like nothing. Or the lazy Clone Emperor storyline. Or Luke ignoring the lesson of his Father's fall to the Dark Side by becoming the Clone Emperor's apprentice. And it basically playing out like a rehash of RotJ with Leia in Luke's role looking to redeem her brother. And then you have real crap like Chewbacca dying by being hit by a moon. And don't get me started on crappy Boba Fett.

E! already reported they will NOT be based on the EU books, but all new material. SOURCE: http://www.eonline.com/news/358685/s...casfilm-source

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII To Be An Original Story

Last night probably the biggest movie news in recent history hit the internet, the news that Disney has acquired LucasFilm for $4.05B and Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in 2015, the same year as Justice League and The Avengers 2. Since then, nearly every movie website on the planet (including us) have been speculating about who will direct and star in the sequel, and most importantly of all what the story will be. There is thousands of comic books, video games and novels to draw inspiration from, all based around the ‘Expanded Universe’, telling the events after Return of the Jedi.

It was suspected that George Lucas’ treatments for the new trilogy (which the movies will be based on) had drawn inspiration from some of the novels, namely Dark Empire and the Thrawn trilogy, but a LucasFilm source tells E! Online that the story for Episode VII will be completely original. Want to know what happens in this Thrawn trilogy?

Well, it’s canon and classed as the official sequel(s) to Return of the Jedi, until 2015 that is. A Dark Jedi asssassin, Mara Jade, hopes to avenge the Emporer’s death by murdering Luke Skywalker, who is establishing a new Jedi Order. She ends up falling for him, and soon the two marry and have kids. Han and Leia get married (naturally) and have twins, so there’s a lot of new Jedi kids running around. The main enemy of the trilogy is General Thrawn, who takes over the remainders of the Empire. Well, according to the site, the new sequels will definitely NOT be based on those stories.

“It’s an original story,” a LucasFilm source tells me.

In other words, forget the Star Wars novels. Forget the graphic novels. Forget everything you think you know about what happens to Luke Skywalker. According to my sources, Episode 7 will literally be nothing you’ve ever seen or read before from the Star Wars universe.

I also hear from several sources that, no matter what you may hear to the contrary, no director has been officially attached to the project.

What do you want to see from the new Sequel Trilogy? I stayed up late last night thinking of story ideas for the movie, but nothing really feels right. Share your thoughts below.

Well, that article is already wrong. The Thrawn trilogy is not "Canon", at least not the same canon as the films.

That article reposts what I just posted from E!, which is the original story. They don't say anything about it being canon or not just what most fans are expecting.
