JJ Abrams was always a Star Wars fan, much more so than Star Trek. Given the choice, I'm sure he much rather have been granted the keys to the Star Wars vehicle before the Star Trek. His association with Spielberg, whose associated with Lucas, could have easily lead to Abrams being privy to what Episode VII was intended to be from Lucas. For all we know, he could have decided to avoid the whole Gary Mitchell story simply because he was aware of what Episode VII consisted of, or maybe because it just seemed too much like The Force in general and he didn't want to tread on that, even if he wasn't going to be involved with Star Wars on any level. |

Funny, one of the first thoughts that I had was that the title sounded arousing, and Episode VIII should be titled: The Force Lasts for More Than Four Hours. |

Hate to go all picky… but the title isn't grammatically correct, unless the Force is awakening something else. It's an active verb. You awaken "something" or "someone", you don't awaken yourself. Grammatically correct would be "the Force Wakes Up", but of course that would suck.
EDIT: I now realize I'm completely wrong about this, and I retract my complaint. Last edited by steel_breeze; 11-06-2014 at 08:25 PM. |

Darkstream, interesting idea but that then shows how bad a film maker he really is because you don't sacrafice one movie just because someone else is going to eventually do something similar. He isn't a Trek fan, he settled for it because there was no more Star Wars to do. I think he avoided the whole Gary Mitchell thing simple because most of the audience wouldn't know who Gary is and it was so much easier to rip-off, I mean pay homage, to Khan. |

I'm sure they'll keep it - it's listed that way on the Star Wars website, but a lot of the posters over the years have referred only to a title without the Episode mentions (which have been used on most of the home videos/DVDs/Blus/etc.). Plus, I don't think that's the final logo for the movie. I'm guessing it was just done for the sake of the announcement and the script will end up following the more traditional title logos.

....though, trust me, I would have *much* rather seen the Trek crew face the "Mitchell" scenario than Orci's truther bloviating. |

I remember when the titles The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were announced and people were up in arms about how corny they were. Star Wars is a modern homage to classic science fiction movie serials, so I have no problem with the titles -- and I actually don't think The Force Awakens is a bad Star Wars title on any level, as long as it reflects what the story is about.
