Theforce.net is also confirming that the next trilogy will be original stories.

Yes they do... they say that The Thrawn Trilogy is "Canon", which it technically isn't.
As only the films, clone wars movie and tv series, and Darth Sidious novel are "Official Canon".

Quote:
Well, it’s canon and classed as the official sequel(s) to Return of the Jedi, until 2015 that is. A Dark Jedi asssassin, Mara Jade, hopes to avenge the Emporer’s death by murdering Luke Skywalker, who is establishing a new Jedi Order. She ends up falling for him, and soon the two marry and have kids. Han and Leia get married (naturally) and have twins, so there’s a lot of new Jedi kids running around. The main enemy of the trilogy is General Thrawn, who takes over the remainders of the Empire. Well, according to the site, the new sequels will definitely NOT be based on those stories.

From the Star Wars blog:

Quote:
“You know, when I first did this, it was four trilogies,” Mark Hamill recalled in 2004, speaking of their conversation in 1976. “Twelve movies! Out on the desert, any time between setups… lots of free time. And George was talking about this whole thing… ‘Um, how’d you like to be in Episode IX?’ ‘When is that going to be?’ ‘2011.’ […] I said, ‘Well, what do you want me to do?’ He said, ‘You’ll just be like a cameo. You’ll be like Obi-Wan handing the lightsaber down to the next new hope.’”
Maybe Luke Skywalker will have a cameo role after all?

Unless he croaks, I see no reason why Mark Hamill couldn't reprise his role as Luke Skywalker. Now Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo, that's a stretch.

This announcement came out of the blue, but I am sure someone was working on this behind the scenes for who knows how long.
Since June according to Pablo Hidaglo.

Well, I do happen to like a lot of the follow up novels and feel there are some great concepts in there but if they arent using them then so be it. Id like to see:

1) The new films should still have Hamil, Ford, and Fisher play their older selves which means EP 7 will have to start a good 15-20 years after the events of ROTJ. Develop the children and then by 8th and 9th films they can naturally die off.

2) I think the concept of the Emperor having himself cloned back with the Kamino and droid army stuff that happened in EP2 would be cool. The idea of cloning was already part of the SW story and why wouldnt the Emperor have had himself cloned? It'd be a great idea, IMO.

3) It would be cool to have The cloned version of this emperor actually turn out to be GOOD - as in something changed when he was cloned. And, one of Han and Leias offspring turn bad and become a new generational Sith or whatever. There is your conflict.

4) Maybe revisit some of the old Jedi/Sith folklore if possible.

Just so much they could do..... I hope they get it right.

That would be fantastic. I'd love to see the older Luke played by none other than Hammil.

Plus who knows how long Lucas has been working on these treatments. He's probably got stacks of notes up the wazoo.

George knows he already takes enough crap from the fans for the "Death Star II" in ROTJ, he's not going to go to the "OT resurrection" well again--
More likely, he's going to follow the Clone Wars/spinoff novel routes, and suggest that a new underground of Sith resurgence is rising, just as the Jedis are re-establishing themselves again, with Luke at the head of the council (in cameos at best).
Me, I wouldn't mind a live-action Ahsoka Tano ( ), or any of the bounty hunters written for the Spinoff canon, but think they're just going to go for rewritten Ahsoka and Darth Maul equivalents.

My working list for directors for the new movies, based on the director's previous work and how IMO they can tonally match the SW films:

Joss Whedon
Peter Jackson
Joe Johnston
Steven Spielberg
JJ Abrahms
Jon Favreau
Joseph Kosinski

Duncan Jones and Neill Blomkamp are also promising scifi directors that might be able to match the tone of the Star Wars films, although their previous work is a bit more post-modern.

I'll whittle down the list to the good choices:

...There. That's simpler.

(If anyone could recapture the optimistic spirit of the original...
Would be the first time since the original that they had hired a suitable director--Richard Marquand, the heck?? )

Unless it's "The Young Boba Fett Chronicles", Boba Fett is canonly dead in the movie universe.

Dies this mean the Original UNALTERED Trilogy wil not be restored for blu ray release?

For the folks that don't want a sequel. Easy solution, don't watch them.

It means that such a release isn't as simple as one might hope. Since Disney has to play ball with Fox now.

Plus it's not going to come anytime soon. Since they need a lot of work before they'd even be release quality.
