Would George still be able to block the release of the unaltered trilogy?

Considering he's outright said they'd be released eventually but weren't a priority.... why would it?

To be comprehensive, wouldn't that require at least some kind of cameo by the parents - Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill for the 3rd chapter? If so, would that be possible (or advisable)?

People keep throwing JJ Abrams name out there as a potential candidate for directing. I want them to stop.

Since we've been debating who should direct the new trilogy, have any of you considered who you'd like cast?

I say:

Nathan Fillion
Chris Hemsworth
Olivia Wilde
Jeff Bridges
Summer Glau
Ian McDiarmid (if Sidious returns)
Iain Glen
Temuera Morrison (as Bobba this time)
Mark Hamill (cameo)
Carrie Fisher (cameo)
Harrison Ford (cameo)
Billy Dee Williams (cameo)
Liam Neeson (force ghost cameo)

What was wrong with Richard Marquand? I really liked Return of the Jedi and thought that, although it wasn't as good as the other two, it was a great film and was simply unfortunate for Marquand that they'd kind of reached their peak when the second came out.

Plus, he's Welsh, so I'm kind of biased on that one

Joe Johnston might do a good job but isn't he focusing on the new Jurassic Park at the moment?

As I said earlier, the big issue is the fact the Fox holds distribution rights indefinitely for the original film. They don't own it but Lucasfilm and now Disney always has to negotiate with Fox if they want to do any type of home video release. For the original sequels and prequels, the Fox distribution rights expire in 2020 so Disney doesn't have to deal on those. So the question is how much the distribution of the first film worth to Disney. It means everything if they want to release an uber home video edition, but the fact is that 'Complete Saga' was released recently to Blu-ray and the number of fans demanding the UOT is a small segment. So most likely I doubt Disney is going to negotiate hard to get the distribution rights for the original until the distribution rights on the others expire. By that time is Blu still going to be a force in home video or will streaming digital distribution be the preferred method. The fact is a lot can happen in eight years in the entertainment industry. Disney might wait/hope for Fox to fall on hard times to try and acquire the rights. The distribution of the first film is all Fox has, its not like they own the content so they can't reboot or anything like that, but it will be a source of contention for Disney until they have all control of all things Star Wars.

Hate to say it but don't hold your breath for the UOT anytime soon.

Lucas admitted Marquand was Flavor of the Month in 1981 for directing "Eye of the Needle"--Which wasn't a bad movie at all, and okay for tension, but not really the stuff of serious sci-fi epic.
(And that was four years before "Jagged Edge", which would have made Marquand FotM, if anything did, but we never really got the chance to judge much from him after that.)

Which suggests that Lucas was really tossing off the directorial gigs without any sense of what stylistic tone he wanted from the stories--Even as much as he imagined the PT having different "tones" for the three stages of Anakin's story.
Irvin Kershner only got Empire because he had been Lucas's film prof at USC, and I doubt Lucas had "Eyes of Laura Mars" in mind for who to direct Yoda.

I liked Jedi too,but I always felt that Marquand and Kershner were merely hired goons and Lucas was still directing from afar. The films are all so similar that you can tell there has been one guiding hand through all of them.

Can't wait for the new movies to come out.

I'm praying Disney releases the original's on blu-ray since George had no intention to do so.

Being a ghost might be pretty cool but man, that would suck.
Walt was cremated. Including his head.

It's all the costume. He looks cool, so people wanted to know more about him.

You never had a Boba Fett action figure?

Well, it's pretty much a well known fact that Lucas directed the Sail Barge stuff (IIRC) as well as the Throne Room sequences.

There's probably a lot more he directed. It's just never been outright stated where and how much.

Your not getting what I said, the ORIGINAL source did not say that, the article that referenced the original did. That was not the article that was the person commenting on the article's own opinion.
