The teaser for Episode I was actually much more epic than this one. Let's just hope that the actual movie will be A LOT better than Episode I

One thing that's going to be amazing no matter what is John Williams' score!

You got issues, dude. The "hate" many of us felt for Lloyd wasn't about threatened masculinity or any of the other innuendoes you flung at everybody. The simple fact is the kid was a horrible actor. He had the same script the other actors had, the same attention from makeup & wardrobe, the same director and producer guiding his performance... and he just failed miserably.

And just to show how ridiculous your "small boy" argument is, compare TPM with 1999's other really big film: The Sixth Sense. I don't recall anyone saying that child actor gave a bad performance, or ruined the movie for them. Many people, self included, thought he should have gotten an Oscar.

Or how about something more recent: Looper. Lots of people had problems with the time travel and seeming paradoxes in the film, don't recall anyone calling that kid anything short of amazing.

Lloyd was just bad casting followed by bad acting.

I watched a funny interview with Lloyd while he was attending college and he said that role ruined his life and people everywhere were really mean to him lol

I always found his casting strange. It came down to two kids and the other looked exactly like the concept art! He really looked like he could be Luke's dad.

If you watch the documentary Lucas and his team say the other kid was the better actor and was better with his lines but Jake was more natural.

At the end of the day we just didn't really need to see how Darth Vader grew up, it wasn't a story that needed to be told. It wasn't anything to do with Jake Lloyd. Even though The Phantom Menace is my favourite prequel it's premise is it's main flaw.

Growing up? Nah, probably not important. But it was important to see how he received a rare chance to become liberated from slavery, achieve his dream of leaving Tatooine and becoming one of the Jedi, and ultimately proving his worth in battle (as silly as it actually played out). In the long run, it may also be important as part of Darth Plagueis' plan to create the super-duper Jedi (which is probably what Luke, the son of "The Chosen One," will become). And fate just happened to push Anakin into Palpatine's view during Ep. I.

If it's one thing Ep VII gets me excited for, it'll be to see whether or not it changes the perspective of the prequels. I got a feeling that "The Phantom Menace" title will suddenly make much more sense, and that all nine films will tell a story about some massive Sith plot bigger than everything else (of which the rise and fall of the Empire may only have been a small sliver of it).

We'd still have the films at 20th Century Fox, along with the fanfare music. To be frank, the one thing that I'm going to miss about the new films is the Fox Fanfare music that opens each Star Wars film (Episodes I-VI).
I've seen interviews with Lucas where he seemed totally disgusted by the fan reactions to the prequels and his changes to the OT. In addition, he's now 70 years old and he probably figured that making another Star Wars movie might kill him. Even if he didn't direct, he's a very hands-on producer and it's said he likes to be involved with everything - he's a control freak.

There's also the matter of timing. If he didn't sell now, he probably would have had to sell within 5 to 10 years anyway, but if he didn't produce a new Star Wars film in the meanwhile, the franchise would have been worth far less. Lucas got $4 billion for the company. Best deal he ever made in his life. It will be many years before Disney recoups that investment. Although they haven't done all that well with the Muppets acquisition, they only paid around $200 million for that. Disney also paid around $4 billion for Marvel and look how many successful films that is generating - far more than Star Wars ever will, even if they release a SW film every year (I think it's currently planned to release a sequel every two years and a stand-alone film every two years in the alternate years.)

If the new film flops critically (it would be hard for it to flop financially), Lucas wins because he still got the money and people will say that he did the better job. If it's a success, he still gets credit for creating the characters and universe in the first place, although they'll also be a lot of "Abrams is a better director than Lucas" comments.

We do associate the 20thCFox fanfare with "Star Wars", but it's used on tons of other films as well, so it's a false association. We're talking about 26 seconds of audio here. People will complain and say that seeing Tinker Bell in front of Star Wars has ruined their lives, but after the hysterics, people will get over it. Someone on here posted that Tinker Bell should be carrying a lightsaber - I think that would be very cool, but it probably won't happen.

All that would make a tantalising prospect but it's not something you can put on the shoulders of a young boy or a young actor. I think the reason he was so young, was that we needed to see the loss of Anakin leaving his mother, the rest of it could have been accomplished by a much older actor and it would have played better. Personally I would have preferred Anakin to be portrayed by the same actor for all three films.

Shmi could have told an older Anakin that she was his sister (he would have been less reluctant to leave a sister on Tatooine) and he would have only found out that she was his actual mother when she died from the Sand People's torture, that would have increased his rage and journey to the Dark Side!

To be quite honest, that makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm trying to imagine someone like Nolan or Joe Wright saying something like that.

"Well, so-and-so was the better actor and delivered her lines better than Keira, but Keira was just more natural."

Huh?

True, it could have worked that way too (probably better). I can also imagine a great scene in ATOC where Shmi says "Anakin...I am your mother!"
