Given a choice between either theatrical or the latest version of Empire in HD, I'd always choose the latest cut that is currently on blu-ray. Would be nice to have the actual choice though.
Nothing wrong with that. I've always preferred the theatrical version myself, and I still hope that Disney will release the unaltered theatrical versions on bluray. Personally, I hope Lucas sees them outsell his saga on bluray. The fans will have spoken.

Is Disney Really Releasing The Unaltered Star Wars Trilogy on Blu Ray?

Until then, there's always fan projects doing their best. I remember the first theatrical version I downloaded, Dr. Gonzo's laserdisc rip with extras. I knew on that day the internet was a wonderful place.

They could have brought in a child re-incarnation of Peter O'Toole (although I realize he was still alive when TPM was made doh) to fill in the part and the dialogue would still sound very corny and pretty dreadful in places.

90% of the 'problems' most people have with the PT films, originate from the scripts and a massive overuse of and dependency on CGI. It becomes ridiculous when you can't even be bothered to produce something like actual clone trooper suit props to put in the film, but hand that over to the visual effects teams to solve as well.

I'm not sure which was more underwhelming the Jurassic World Teaser or the Star Wars neither makes me want to see either. But JJ Abrams wins because he's already ruin Trek.

I hope he respects these characters better.

Didn't many of the hardcore Trek fans complain that there was too much of a Star Wars influence on the 2009 film?

I always laugh when Trekkies () say that Abrams ruined Trek. As if there was anything left to ruin by the time he got his hands on it.

Evidently the ultimate insult is to make something popular/fun.

Exactly how I feel. Star Trek: Nemesis is much worse than anything Abrams did. I like what he did with the series, and in my opinion, he saved it from total devastation.

Wow. I'm a big Trek fan, have been for a long time and I love what he did with the 2 films. There were alot of winks and nods to Trek fans from things in TOS that I really enjoyed. He basically resurrected a dead franchise and he wasn't even a big fan.
Knowing he grew up a Star Wars fan, I'm confident he's going to give us something great.

I thought the 2009 Star Trek film was excellent. Into Darkness...not so much (clearly not awful just seriously underwheming). So perhaps it's just as well that Abrams is only making one entry for the SW universe. Will definetly be interesting to have the forthcoming films being helmed by different directors.

Well, for my money, I like STID a hell of a lot more than Looper (liked it - especially the visual style - I just didn't love it like most people). But I hope Rian Johnson does a good job following up Abrams (who has my complete confidence). If he gets it right, his darker style might just result in his film being the Empire to Abram's SW. So, fingers crossed.

I'd like to see Matthew Vaughn get a crack at one of them. Love what he did with X-Men First Class.

Maybe I'm just all f@cked up on drugs, but I think this is the most awesome thing of all time, period. I'll be there on opening day. I still like the new-old school shit. Honestly, I haven't seen a lot of Star Wars stuff that I didn't like, so... you can't go by my opinion.

I watched the video over, and over, and over, and for some reason, it seems to get even better.

By the way, the original story for this was written by George Lucas.

I thought the homage to everything trek were brilliant. I grew up with TOS and the movies. The only good films were the ones that weren't insular, and you didn't need a PHD, or an over-reliance of knowledge of trek history.
