While people are speculating about these new characters, Im wondering how the OT will be referenced in the new film?

1. Is Darth Vader going to be refered to as a hero?
2. Is Leah going to show off her force skills?
3. Will Jedi ghosts be used again - they werent used in prequels but were used in OT. How is the new version going to choose?
4. Are all the main old characters going to be split up again for most of the movie as in ESB and ROTJ?

I would have to assume the answer to no. 2 is yes. For 3, I would certainly expect force ghosts again. They weren't in the prequel trilogy, though Qui-Gon was able to project his voice, so he was beginning to utilize the technique. Obviously Obi-Wan and Yoda, and later Anakin were able to project physically, so there must have been some exchange between these (after death?), which offered them this ability. Curiously, Yoda himself appeared to physically disperse after death, as if this is somehow taking it a step further.

It's a shame we can't really use the EU to explain this any longer, though we might be able to predict further explanation in the sequel trilogy. As to whom we might expect to see, I wouldn't be surprised if there are Sith as well as Jedi examples.

P.S.: Regarding the EU and the wikis regarding this information, as in Wookieepedia, is is a real shame all of the work involved there is lost, or at least for the purposes of canon. Now, the documentation of the EU must be particularly distinguished from what is shown on film, which will likely lead to a lot of conflict in post-OT material.

My predictions:

1. I reckon he'll be referenced briefly, describing his rise, fall and redemption.
2. I'd say it was more likely she'll be a Senator, maybe even Chancellor and possibly "sense" stuff.
3. Well we haven't heard of any reports of Ewan McGreggor or Frank Oz on set so I would say it was unlikely that we'll see force ghosts of any of the older cast.
4. You betcha.

Yes, I know. That would be why I said "extreme". Luke is too old in TESB because he's an adult. I certainly wouldn't have guessed from that exchange that a 9 year old would be "too old" as well.

Don't forget, Obi-Wan 'dissolved' into nothing when Vader awkwardly hit him with the lightsaber after shutting down the tractor beam.

After viewing this teaser on my very own "big screen" (or just my tv) in the living room (which by the way is really cool especially if you showing it to friends) you can hear how strong that red lightsaber is while watching that character in black coming to a cold and silent stop It does "sound" unstable but I really shouldn't over analyze this small part of a teaser or anything from Star Wars for that matter and just enjoy what J.J. as already brought to the table, I am probably more wrong than right Darth Maul from Episode I was no padawan when it came to fighting or using different weaponry, but someone was going to have his number

I also downloaded the teaser using the YouTube Downloader, and it actually worked lol.

Can't wait for the movie next year, will not speculate on anything nor try to analyze anything I saw so far in these 88 seconds. I am sure these images will be analysed, inspected, destructed, speculated..well name it in abundance by the Internet community and the fans. Frankly the fans are the reasons I post less and less on the Internet and don't even attend conventions anymore. Overall I am looking forward to Star Wars being back next year.
I don't mind enjoying the 88 seconds of fun we just witnessed either, and leaving it at that I did the same thing when the first trailer of Guardians of the Galaxy was released; Nevertheless, I was disappointed with the end result; However, I wasn't disappointed that I removed myself from watching any other footage of the film after the first trailer was released. I think if I did continue to watch everything else that came after, the film would have felt more flat and I wouldn't have had much to enjoy after spoiling myself rotten. I'm really glad that I left the story as unharmed by media and bloggers intuitions, further trailers, tv spots, which in turn only left me digesting the entire movie at the theater, all while being untouched by countless view-points and opinions from others

What makes this situation different is that, I believe J.J. Abrams and Lucas both agreed that there wasn't anything canon from any other Star Wars stories (minus the first 6 films) that was going to correlate with this new Episode VII Which in total, will not harm my imagination or my very own theories as to what or why certain things are going on in this new teaser trailer. I'm just really excited for everyone who is anticipating this films release as if it was 1977 all over again

So what are the chances of Force Ghost Qui-Gon showing up in the new trilogy?

Been waiting to comment on this one but I saw that Force Awakens Lens Flare video and I was horrified. You could barely see anything in the video because the lens flares were cranked up on crack. The Millenium Falcon is barely visible. But, I actually enjoyed the "George Lucas" version. I just expected to see more background characters and aliens and creatures, where the teaser trailer was lacking.

You do know the lens flare video is a joke? It's not actual footage.

Very slim. He doesn't really have any connection with the original trilogy characters or the new ones, so there would be very little reason for him to turn up, unless we go somewhere there's an abundance of Force ghosts (like a dead Jedi support group!).

I would have liked to have seen him in Revenge of the Sith but I think Liam Neeson was injured through a bike accident?

For my money, I'm glad this new one is going to have laser swords and robots and spaceships and stuff.

I like laser swords and robots and spaceships and stuff.
ME TOO! And dragons and unicorns and faeries and warlocks and… I heart fantasy. Period.

As a content Star Wars fan, I couldn't be happier!
But no announcement yet of a hi-def release of the Star Wars Holiday Special? The circle just wouldn't be complete!

It makes sense. They want to get the child when he/she is too young to have formed attachments with his/her parents. Since the old Jedi order was strict on the no attachments thing that's why Anakin was considered to be too old to start. That's also why they were weak and couldn't see what was really going on with Anakin until it was too late. I want to slap Yoda (no offense to Yoda lovers) when he's sitting there all eastern med style telling Anakin to just let go when Anakin is recounting his fear of someone he loves dying. That is not how you help someone deal with something like that. All those pious platitudes amount to nothing. If anything that pushed Anakin farther away.

To be honest, I'll be surprised if there is much of any reference at all to the prequels in the new movies. I serously doubt we'll ever hear names like Qui-Gon, Mace Windu, Padme, Jango Fett, Jar Jar, Battle Droids, Clone Troopers, Count Dooku, General Greivous, etc ever muttered on screen again.

Shame, because they're not all bad. I really liked Jango Fett and General Greivous myself.
