Leia has been the leader of the New Republic for 30 years and is married to Han Solo. They are constructing a new weapon on a 'Scandinavian-esque cold and forsaken forest world.

The Sith appear to have abandoned the "rule of two" - where there are always two Sith, a master and an apprentice.

Adam Driver's character is a force-sensitive hotshot red-squadron pilot who falls to the dark side. It's thought he plays the hooded character seen in the teaser trailer with the red 'junk' lightsaber, which he constructed himself.

Andy Serkis' character is a very old, very powerful alien Sith. He's thought to have trained or manipulated Emperor Palpatine at some point for his own purposes - though his goals differ from Palpatines.

In the new universe, the Sith are not necessarily aligned with the Empire.

The lightsaber battles have been described as "magnificent", "heavy hitting" and "original-trilogy styled"

JJ has apparently been given a blank authority cheque from Disney.

JJ is said to have great disdain for the prequels. A rumor circulates LucasFilm that he told Kathleen Kennedy "[George] literally betrayed and murdered his past achievements".

Despite that, JJ is said to have paid "lip service" to George previously. Lip service means giving someone approval and/or support.

Lucas is sympathetically tolerated and venerated, but also "lampooned" for "murdering the prequels". Bad Robot loathes him."

I'm calling BS on Abrams telling Kathleen Kennedy that Lucas betrayed and murdered his past achievements. Who else would be in the room to a) overhear that, and then b) blab it out.
You're opinion...its not the first time some of his peers have said that! Just because a few hundred on this board find the PT the bees knees I would say that's not the general consensus especially for those over the age of 40.....I think JJ will stay as far away from the PT as he possibly can.

Hopefully he at least followed these guidelines:

Kiss my ARSE. I was led to reddit, from Slashfilm, and they have some interesting plot rumors, and if true, it could really blow the speculation off into orbit. The mind blowing information is about a 'half-cyborg' character who isn't who everyone thinks it is:

* WARNING *
Major possible spoilers, reveal at your peril.

[Show spoiler]
  • Daisy plays Kira, a character living on Tatooine with Max Von Sydow's character. Kira is a dusty survivalist tomboy. Sydow is a broken man from the prequel area that has become mostly cyborg. He is not force sensitive and for some reason collects artifacts that we've seen at critical points during the previous films, particularly ones relating to the Jedi and the Sith. Daisy shares his fascination with history, and she is revealed in Act II to be the daughter of Han and Leia. As someone with force sensitivity, she resents the fact that Luke went into exile before he could train her, and she hopes that the search for force-sensitive artifacts could lead her to him. She keeps her identity as a Solo under wraps in order to keep trouble away.
  • Boyega is a force-sensitive Stormtrooper under command of Gwendoline Christie's character. He defects from the Empire over the course of the movie, ending up stranded on a desert planet (presumed to be Tatooine) during the first act. Having defied orders, Boyega is hunted as a deserter.
  • Sydow is a sort of mentor to Kira, and apparently his true identity is an Act III revelation that will surprise a lot of people. The contention is that he is an existing character from the prequel films, and the revelation of his identity will shock viewers.
  • At some point, Han says the familiar "Hey, it's me!" line. Someone, of course, says the classic "I have a bad feeling about this." These are said to be the only self-referential "smile while rolling your eyes" lines of the film.
  • Luke exiled himself because of the ongoing war. With the galaxy in chaos, he had to ensure his safety so that a new generation could be trained. At least, that's his contention; the fact that he continues to exclude himself despite his great power indicates ulterior motive.
  • Only Han and Leia know where Luke is, a fact we learn aboard a Mon Cal cruiser in the film's second act.
  • Luke has grown to dislike using his lightsaber, but apparently draws it late in the movie and showcases his abilities against an Inquisitor. It's still green.

There's lots more, which you can find here. WARNING: The link may contain major spoils.

Please note that I put the posted stuff in spoilers but the link I didn't since there's nothing spoiler worthy revealed in the link itself.

[Show spoiler]So Driver haphazardly constructs this "JUNK saber, and he has not been properly trained yet in the ways of the sith...well not bad for a beginner.

This guy gets it.

Personally I think the prequels are worthwhile for the ideas they introduce to the Star Wars universe. I don't think anyone imagined Palpatine gaining the power he did in a democratic way which I think makes the films far more relatable to this planet's own history and adds greater depth to the GFFA. The GFFA felt very small in the original trilogy and people were far more clearly defined as being either good or bad. The OT is still certainly better but I love the prequel trilogy for being more critical of the good guys and making them that bit more relatable through character faults. The OT is better, but the GFFA as presented in the prequels made me really interested in what isn't shown in the films.

Lucas has always been a great ideas guy, he just isn't so great at developing those ideas into great scripts.

*waits for barrage of rotten fruit*

A few solid points, but some of these were necessities of the basic lore (like having to make Anakin romantically involved with someone, it only felt forced because of how poorly written and performed it was). The over-reliance on CGI is never going away, regardless of who makes the new films. Though using actual shooting locations as opposed to blue-screen can mitigate this.

But yes, keep the cool characters (especially the villains) alive throughout more than the first of the trilogy. Don't over-explain mystical elements of the lore. Don't turn new alien races into human racial stereotypes. Don't let your protagonist be an annoying whiner (though Luke was a bit of a whiner in ANH, he at least grew out of that and experienced some growth in TESB). Have a clear protagonist that you can invest in and route for. All basic necessities to satisfy normies and hardcore fans alike.

If it makes you feel any better, nothing anyone is saying are spoilers. It is literally the postings of some completely random unknown dude claiming to know basic character identities.

Unless he's telling the truth. Even if it's pure speculation it should be in spoiler tags.
