I hope if Luke is in any lightsaber battles that they are handled in the same way the two from Empire and Jedi were. I love enraged Luke swinging like he is holding a baseball bat at the end of Jedi. I don't want Luke bouncing off walls and doing back flips. Even the lightsaber fight between old Ben and Vader in the first Star Wars is better than Dooku doing a back flip and landing 20 feet below.

I just hope JJ showcases The Raid actors in such an impressive fashion that it makes people go out of their way to finally watch The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2. That'd be great if those movies got more commercial/mainstream exposure.

The final fight in Raid 2 is the best martial arts sequence I've seen in the past decade.

Yeah, saber fights should just be a couple people clubbing away at each other.

Still better than watching a sci fi version of baton twirling

I always thought that showy lightsaber moves and kung fu flips would be against Jedi beliefs. But I also never thought the Jedi were a bunch of morons until the prequels so...

Man, I sure hope that people put as much energy into bashing the new Star Wars movies as they did the PT. It almost wouldn't be the same without it...
I liked the Darth Maul stuff too, but there are somethings the video points out that are pretty valid - like all the extra wrist twirls and things like that. Although, there is one part when Obi-wan does a 360 and then pauses for a second while he waits for Maul's saber to be at a certain point before Obi-wan swings. That one just plain bothers me.

It's kind of like any "group fight scene", involving 3 or more against 1, where extra bad guys just "wait their turn" to get beat up by the lone good guy. It's a good thing Star Wars brought this to my attention!
So yeah all fight scenes are not realistic - Childhood ruined!

Com'on. You know what I meant.

Maybe if Ewan sold it a bit more. I mean, seriously, he turns and looks directly toward where he needs to throw his light saber.

Hopefully the new films will actually be good so that we wont have to. The prequels? Long forgotten by the time the new films come out.

Dude, you keep mentioning no flips but you seem to have forgotten that Luke pulled off a few moves of his own in Empire and Jedi (backflip onto the overhead gantry anyone?). Might as well change your username to Larry Sanders: "No flipping!"

Yeah, they're trying to get some air moving, it's a bit stuffy on Mustafar.

To reiterate what JT said: I loved that moment too. I'm not even gonna try and make sense of what they're doing, but it looks awesome anyway (in the context of the actual film, natch).

The problem with the fight is you have a trained martial arts expert fighting a huge 6'5'' Irishman and wee Ewan McGregor. Maul could probably hit both of them 50 times before they got near him.

It is a great fight scene and a highlight of the movies, even if it looks terribly stiff in that little video but give the guys a break, they'd never done anything like that before. By the time Episode III came around McGregor was pretty good at it.

The extra twirls seem to be a modern epidemic on movies, most of the handheld weapons are played around with, whether it keeps the wrists and fingers loose or it's just for show I don't know.

Say whatever else you want to say about the PT (and I've had plenty else to say), Duel of Fates is one of the high points of the entire saga.

It's awesome, plain and simple.

Hell, it was sandwiched between General Binks and Yippeeee! and it was still freaking awesome.

Luke jumps out of the corbinate chamber in Empire and does one back flip in Jedi, neither are comparable to the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Jedi in the prequels.

He uses the walking plank as a springboard and does a flip in Jedi.

That seems to be the thing with the fights. I can buy the reason that Lucas gave about the fight in Star Wars - they were old, one was more man than machine, etc - and that normal Jedi fights would be more involved. But the prequels are a bit over the top, especially the fight with Yoda bouncing all over the place. You could write it off as them using the force to move fast in Revenge of the Sith but why are they not like that all the time then? Imagine how different Episode 2 would be if instead of being slaughtered, the Jedi moved quickly and took out the guys shooting at them! But instead they just stand there like targets. And why is the Windu/Emperor fight(such as it was) at normal speed then? Once the Emperor attacked, don't you think Windu should have kicked it into overdrive? It just seemed to be added to Revenge of the Sith so show how good they had become with the lightsabers.

Yup. Damn those prequels and their kung fu flipping heroes, they were clearly a bad influence on Luke. Oh, wait...
