Fire, explosions, and sound effects in space in Star Wars are impractical because space has no air to carry sound or fire (unless you want to make the argument that space in the movies is not a vacuum and is actually full of air, but this is supposed to be a galaxy far far away and not some other dimension with different laws of physics).

What's the point of having huge battleships with detachable spheres that land on planet Geonosis? It just gave the clones something else to shoot at.

What is the point of the Slave 1 landing on its backside, and then having to turn 90-degrees upright to fly? How do any of these ships fly with their given wing configurations? None of them seem to have flaps, so how to they control altitude? How can they handle more intense winds and air pressure from planet to planet? Surely, none of these ships should be able to fly in any atmospheric condition (even with repulsors).

Having a space station the size of a small moon is impractical, because of the sheer cost of construction, sustainment, the sheer workforce involved, and a structure of that size would undoubtedly suffer severe structural issues (especially with a planet-destroying laser shooting from its epicenter outwards). The Darksaber design would have been far more practical for a superweapon. Why are there workers in the firing chamber of the superlaser, standing on a small platform with no apparent railing or light protection?

Having to build the same space station again, without any apparent change in design (well, maybe they fixed that one open 2-meter port), is impractical, and if anything shows that the Empire lacked innovation. Using it as a trap for the Rebel fleet is especially foolish, given that it had to be sensitive and frail in those early stages of construction. The Emperor put too much faith in his shield generator.

Having troops ride Taun-Tauns, giant lizards, and other weird animals is wildly impractical when speeders and speeder bikes seem to be in plentiful supply. Why do they need walking vehicles when there are ships and speeders galore? Why prolong a battle with slow-moving walkers that can be tripped-up easily by cables and logs?

Why did they deploy speeder bikes in a forest? It's obviously poor terrain for those kinds of vehicles.

What is the point of a mouse droid? Or that one droid that looks like a trash can with feet (yeah, I know it's a power droid, but what can it do without any apparent limbs?). Why do spaceships require astromech droids? Are flight computers really that limited? Why do droids feel pain when tortured (as evidenced in Jabba's palace)? If General Grevious is 90% droid already, why did he need to have an organic heart and stuff? Why didn't he go all the way with full-body prosthetics?

Why is there a giant worm inside of an asteroid in the middle of nowhere? What does that worm usually eat (aside from really tiny ships that may happen by once in a long while, which would never be enough to sustain that huge creature)? Wouldn't it find a better home in some other place where there's more organic matter to feed on?

Out of all this impractical nonsense, people chose to complain about...lightsabers with a crossguard?! Bloody hell.
Thanks for taking all the fun out of Star Wars.

Lucas' 'Magic' lives on, at home and on screen

Excerpt:

Lucas' little girl was one of the reasons Lucas stepped away from Lucasfilm, the company he started in the 1970s. In the span of a year beginning in October 2012, he sold it to Disney for $4 billion, married Hobson in June 2013 and welcomed Everest (born via surrogate) two months later.

Lucas already started to develop the next three Star Wars films, but he knew a third trilogy was a 10-year commitment at least. He at first expected to finish Episode VII, release it in May 2015 and then sell the company afterward.

But Disney expressed interest and came along at the right moment, Lucas says. "It's better for me to get out at the beginning of a new thing and I can just remove myself.

"The time is more important to me than the money."

Now he can focus on writing what he calls small "experimental" films and be first in line in December for Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"The only thing I really regret about Star Wars is the fact I never got to see it — I never got to be blown out of my seat when the ship came over the screen," Lucas says. "The next one, I'll be able to enjoy it like anybody else."

Wow. I kinda doubt he would've sold it after Ep VII, with two more to go. I also don't think the movie would've been as popular had he stayed at the helm, and probably wouldn't be as good.

I highly doubt that. Good, that's another story. But if I remember correctly he never meant to direct in the first place.

You're forgetting about those bat-like creatures that also live there. The giant worm can eat them (and apparently has, as they are seen inside its stomach). Also it takes a while for digestion to happen, so it's not like the worm has to eat every day.

That "worm" is actually the larvae of what will one day become a beautiful, giant space butterfly, powered by energy from the stars.

Any update on the original Trilogy, untouched and remastered on Blu-ray?

I figure there's a possibility that they may release it on UHD Bu-ray in native 4k at the end of the year to coincide with the release of episode seven? UHD Blu-ray players should be released about the same time episode 7 releases, so I see it as a perfect time to release the original Trilogy.

Sincerely I don't really think that the UHD release is going to be a factor in the release, as it will be a fairly niche format compare to HD blu ray.

Ahh, we've been sucking the fun out of it since the 90s.

That's true, it could live like the Sarlacc Pit on a slow metabolism, and it probably scoops up smaller life forms like a whale eating krill. Still seems like sparse pickings out on the middle of an airless asteroid.

All the more reason why it needs more than little ships and a handful of Mynoks to feed.

Default "The Force Awakens" Predicted as 1# Highest Grossing 2015 Film!!!

From the article:

Bookmaker William Hill has predicted that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the highest grossing movie of 2015, out muscling the forthcoming installments of both the Avengers and James Bond franchises.

In its rundown of the biggest films of the year the bookmaker makes the forthcoming Disney film, directed by JJ Abrams, a huge odds-on favourite to be the most successful of the year. The other contenders are Avengers: Age of Ultron which will be the 4/1 outsider ahead of Jurassic World at 8/1 with Spectre, the new 007 film coming in fourth with odds of 9/1.

Last year, Credit Suisse's Michael Senn predicted that the film would take $1.2bn at the box office, (StarWars7News.com) reports. This week, Cowan & Co. projected the exact same figure. But FBR Capital Markets goes further and says the film would likely take in $700m domestically and another $1bn overseas.

Some analysts say that the hotly anticipated film may even outperform those expectations, and could go on to be the highest grossing film of all time. To do so it would have to top James Cameron's Avatar, which made $2.8bn when it was released in 2009.

Star Wars Celebration in April would be a good time to announce a. Blu-ray release.

UHD Blu-ray isn't even on the radar yet. Look how long it took SW to appear on Blu-ray.

Entertainment Weekly actually predicted 3 billion...but it's EW.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Lucas writing and directing. Not that I think it will happen but it would be funny if The Force Awakens was the biggest film of all time and the UOT BD broke the record for most sales. Lucas could take his "Han Shot First" t-shirt and sob into it.

u can bank on that....it would at the minimum outsell the current versions. I do not think that the new Star Wars will out gross the next Avengers though.
