Looks like we dodged a bullet with Lucas writing and directing. Not that I think it will happen but it would be funny if The Force Awakens was the biggest film of all time and the UOT BD broke the record for most sales. Lucas could take his "Han Shot First" t-shirt and sob into it.

Speaking of that scene, I'd love it if it was mentioned in Episode VII somehow.

Every time Han gets shot at in the film he should duck to the right. Even when he is flying the Falcon.

He moved so quick and unnatural, it'd be wrong not to use that kind of talent again.

Additionally, will the Jedi be able to use the Force sprints or is that something still retconned since the middle of Episode I?

Since it's in a "Galaxy far far away" space might have different rules. Considering you can hear sounds in space, the space in this galaxy has air. If it was airless, space would be void of sound. Therefore, not airless.

Correction, the beginning of episode I.

I would say that the new Star Wars film comes in around 450 to 500 Million domestic. Considering the PT was so awful I would not expect more than that. Now if this was the first one since 1983 I think it would be more than 750 million.

I think the original cast returning already pushes this higher than the prequel trilogy. Not to mention, the casual movie going audience actually doesn't hate the prequels nearly as much as the internet would love people to believe. They have problems, but they aren't the worst movies ever made, and they really don't hurt the saga in the end. But this movie is going to probably be the biggest movie of the year, easily.

Adjusted, Phantom Menace made nearly $700M and Sith nearly $500M, without 3D surcharges. I think $500M is probably a good guess overall. It won't be as front loaded with the December release, so it should make around $400M in the first couple of weeks and command most of January as well. None of these new ones will sell as many tickets as The Phantom Menace, which no movie has yet to top in the last 16 years, not even Avengers or Avatar.

Original cast returning, big name director in JJ, a decade since the last movie in the series, the Disney marketing machine and fan anticipation will assure that this reaches way over $700 million domestically.

Where's the practicality in a universe where space is full of air?

If that's truly the case, then why do spacetroopers have helmets?

Why isn't space blue instead of black?

How can planets and stars actually move in a void full of air? Wouldn't there be too much resistance? Would all these stellar bodies burn up in the friction? What's to stop all the stars from igniting oxygen and other gases across the entire galaxy? How do ships fly in an air-filled void when they have fixed engines and no apparent flaps or anything?

Man, none of this makes sense. Star Wars sucks.

Dodged a bullet? Before that nobody even thought that Episode VII will happen. So thanks George.

I'll thank him twice. Once for creating Star Wars and again for retiring.

I'll make it three times if his museum is not the monstrosity early renderings make it out to be.

Fire, explosions, and sound effects in space in Star Wars are impractical because space has no air to carry sound or fire (unless you want to make the argument that space in the movies is not a vacuum and is actually full of air, but this is supposed to be a galaxy far far away and not some other dimension with different laws of physics).

What's the point of having huge battleships with detachable spheres that land on planet Geonosis? It just gave the clones something else to shoot at.

What is the point of the Slave 1 landing on its backside, and then having to turn 90-degrees upright to fly? How do any of these ships fly with their given wing configurations? None of them seem to have flaps, so how to they control altitude? How can they handle more intense winds and air pressure from planet to planet? Surely, none of these ships should be able to fly in any atmospheric condition (even with repulsors).

Having a space station the size of a small moon is impractical, because of the sheer cost of construction, sustainment, the sheer workforce involved, and a structure of that size would undoubtedly suffer severe structural issues (especially with a planet-destroying laser shooting from its epicenter outwards). The Darksaber design would have been far more practical for a superweapon. Why are there workers in the firing chamber of the superlaser, standing on a small platform with no apparent railing or light protection?

Having to build the same space station again, without any apparent change in design (well, maybe they fixed that one open 2-meter port), is impractical, and if anything shows that the Empire lacked innovation. Using it as a trap for the Rebel fleet is especially foolish, given that it had to be sensitive and frail in those early stages of construction. The Emperor put too much faith in his shield generator.

Having troops ride Taun-Tauns, giant lizards, and other weird animals is wildly impractical when speeders and speeder bikes seem to be in plentiful supply. Why do they need walking vehicles when there are ships and speeders galore? Why prolong a battle with slow-moving walkers that can be tripped-up easily by cables and logs?

Why did they deploy speeder bikes in a forest? It's obviously poor terrain for those kinds of vehicles.

What is the point of a mouse droid? Or that one droid that looks like a trash can with feet (yeah, I know it's a power droid, but what can it do without any apparent limbs?). Why do spaceships require astromech droids? Are flight computers really that limited? Why do droids feel pain when tortured (as evidenced in Jabba's palace)? If General Grevious is 90% droid already, why did he need to have an organic heart and stuff? Why didn't he go all the way with full-body prosthetics?

Why is there a giant worm inside of an asteroid in the middle of nowhere? What does that worm usually eat (aside from really tiny ships that may happen by once in a long while, which would never be enough to sustain that huge creature)? Wouldn't it find a better home in some other place where there's more organic matter to feed on?

Out of all this impractical nonsense, people chose to complain about...lightsabers with a crossguard?! Bloody hell.

Man, none of this makes sense. Star Wars sucks.
I know this is all in good fun, and rather than try to offer excuses (of which we could come up with an unlimited supply), I'll tell you how I make sense of it. The SW saga is simply another story told in the way the storyteller, GL here, can best tell, in some cases with his limited understanding of what really happened. As with any good storyteller, there is a certain amount of exaggeration, and possibly some details are made up in an effort to keep the story flowing well. For example, sound in the void of space (from the vantage of space) was known by George to be impossible, however he knows that adding cool sounds just enhance the scene. Obviously, it happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... and none of us were there to verify the accuracy of his storytelling, but we can all agree it's one of the most amazing stories in the history of storytelling. What's wrong with that?

The bigger question here is:

If Lucas did make Ep.7 would it be what we will see in December or is it something else entirely, and is the "Force Awakens" his title that he would have used or did it come directly from Abrams?? Is it possible that Lucas's idea is what Abrams is doing with this film? since he was halfway through it before Disney took over?

I am wondering why a no traditional May 21st/25th release? Has anyone heard why? Are they scared about going up against the latest and greatest Comic film you think?
