J.J. Abrams hasn't said anything on it yet, though, and it's gaining traction as a rumor. If he really announced it it maybe he does want it moved up (even if Disney doesn't want for them to). So he may be trying to convince the studio right now and Disney may be weighing their options about moving the release date. If it is in fact something that Abrams announced at said ceremony.

Oh, I'll mark it. Maybe IMAX releases of the original films in August or September. SW7 is coming in December.

Not gonna happen. MAYBE Thanksgiving weekend, but that's a stretch.

Like it or not, this movie is driven by merchandising and tie-ins and all of those other corporations are operating on the Dec 18 schedule. No way they want to alter their plans at this late stage.

Disney's not going to sabotage Pixar's The Good Dinosaur this Fall.

Geez, I forgot about that movie! Did Pixar even put anything out in 2014? I can't remember. Anyway I hope The Good Dinosaur turns out to be a great movie because Pixar is due for a bounce back.

The Good Dinosaur was having massive problems a couple of years ago...some people got replaced, I was surprised when I heard the release date was this year.

Forgot about The Good Dinosaur... yup, Dec 18 is sticking.

Disney is trying to own the year from May - Dec.

While I would love to see Star Wars this summer I don't know if it's realistically possible. I mean the only arguments for it would be the use of practical effects could cut the post production down significantly but I don't know if the score if finished if any pick-ups need to be filmed etc...

I can totally understand JJ not wanting his film spoiled though.

I don't think the movie will be pushed up unless the toys and other merchandising can make it to the shelves too.

I think Walt's Ghost made that point. If not, someone did and I agree with it.

Maybe it will release a week or two before, but I would expect that the toys and movie will be cash collectors at the same time.

JJ doesn't say a lot publicly about what he does behind the scenes or the amount of control he has over things. Funny thing here is he is pretty much a director for hire compared to Trek where Paramount gave him the keys to the franchise so unless Disney feels it is a good idea, it isn't going to happen. And why would they? As is they can say the film was a little rushed if it doesn't quite do as well as they want. Move it up 6 months and the same thing happens and everyone will say "guess they should have taken the extra time". Like a summer release is going to make a difference anyways for this film - it will make a mint either way.

While I plan on seeing both I still think The Avengers Age Of Ultron is going to make more than Star Wars. Disney is not going to want to have anything compete with The Avengers and then Ant Man.

I agree with this. While I think Star Wars will do great at the box office it wont gross as much as Avengers.

Tough to say. I think Avengers is the hot thing right now so it will probably do better but I think there are a lot of people who don't really care about the Marvel films who might be more willing to see Star Wars. I think if we hadn't see the prequels, no doubt Star Wars would have blown them away but I think there is still a good chance they could do as well as Avengers. What's it matter anyways, it all goes to the same place in the end.

Both films will make a shit ton of money, I think it's safe to say. Age of Ultron though has the potential to take out Camerons top 2.
