I'd much rather see the money, time and energy spent on new stories where we don't know the ending than go back over what we know yet again. Particularly as this is one franchise conceived for the screen, as opposed to being based on other media.

There is no point in Disney remaking the prequels. That will never happen.
They will move forward with new projects/stories. The next three films (which are being discussed as a "new" trilogy) are probably the last to feature the original cast. And from there on out it will be entirely new characters and stories in the Star Wars universe. This will already begin to be established in Episode 7. It is clear that even with the returning cast members there will also be an emphasis on establishing new characters in the universe. Anyone expecting Disney to just go back and reboot the whole franchise where they remake Episodes 1-6 is wrong, IMO. I don't see that ever happening. Imagine the fan uproar that will cause from some. It makes a lot more sense to just tell new stories. |

It was a "quiet" massive success because even though it was a blockbuster in America most of that money came from European countries. Skyfall was one of the biggest releases of all time overseas.

It will never happen. Never. They may do some stories that intersect or reflect on that era, but there will not be Disney financed remakes of the prequel films. |

I don't see it happening either. They may make movies that go before the prequels, but rebooting or remaking is really unlikely.
Star Wars is a very expansive universe. And as proven by decades of Expanded Universe material, there is a lot of stories to tell as long as we get the right, imaginative minds to write it out. That said, I hope a story like Knights of the Old Republic will be produced for the big screen. |

I've spent some time on Wikipedia reading on the older Sith from Darth Plagieus (Palpatines master) on back and there's some really good stuff in there that would make great films. I hate the idea of these character spin-offs though. They're so limited with what they can do because the available films ultimately tell us how they turn out. I don't care where they were born, grew up and what else they did. The Star Wars universe is huge. Let's see something new. |

Unless they decide to go in a dramatically different route in remaking the original films, I don't see it ever happening. The response to the notion of the entire prequel trilogy being remade would likely inspire less enthusiasm and excitement than it would irritation from the fan community. Tons of people dislike those movies... even with the prospect of maybe making them "better" the idea would likely not be met positively.
And Episodes 4-6, the "real original" trilogy is one that people will want left untouched. Why would Disney invest in such a proposition when they can instead invite filmmakers who BECAME filmmakers in part because of Star Wars to branch out and make a bunch of new stories in this universe? The latter just makes so much more sense. No one has a magic-eight-ball on this to tell them if remakes will or won't ever happen but it seems so unlikely. Hollywood actually doesn't have a big track record for doing remakes like this either. With a classic horror film, a remake is considered a "guarantee" because it turns out an easy 50 million or so and costs less to make and promote. So it is seen as easy money. Turning in a few hundred million-dollar produced remake of a beloved franchise the whole world over? Well, Sony attempted it (sort of) with The Amazing Spider-Man. The first one received decent responses but not ideal numbers. The second one was considered a major under-performer given costs and expectations. Hence why we are now at a different kind of reboot that isn't backtracking for the MCU. And Nolan's Batman films don't count the same way as the origin hadn't been fully explored on film before and it was Nolan who came to the studio with his own vision for a new Batman film. |
