I thought that lightsaber battle video was made in jest. That's how I watched it anyway. Why are people (especially the youtube comment section) taking this so seriously?

Hopefully they don't F this up and make Ep VII a hard PG-13.

My dad introduced me to Star Wars when I was around 7, and Empire Strikes Back is the first movie I ever saw in the theater with my parents (I was 8) that wasn't a kid- type movie.
I introduced my kids to Star Wars, and they can't wait for the new movie.

So my guess is that it'll be around for a looooong time.

My daughter is 6 years old going on 7 next month and I decided to have her watch ANH last week, she really liked it except for the Cantina scene of course. She watched half of ESB and then lost interest, haha. I guess I'll just have to wait a little bit more to get her into it. She does love R2-D2 and wants an actual real life replica of...him/it?

Comments on youtube are rarely civilized, and to many it appears to be a revalation that fights in movies are choregraphed. You can do this with literally any fight. It's beyond ridiculous, but these people have too much time in their mommie's basement.

If you want another comparison, the first trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015’s other massive movie) was viewed 34 million times in 24 hours. That movie is expected to be the Biggest Thing Ever, which only means that The Force Awakens will be the, uh, Biggestest Thing Ever?

In all seriousness, these numbers showcase an army of fans, both casual and devoted, who want to return to this world and are ready to wash the taste of the prequels out of their mouths. Nearly four decades after the first film opened in theaters, the Star Wars saga is still showing everyone else how it’s done.

Or just maybe...they are ready to see how the story continues after the events that took place in the prequels tie into the OT? As much as you'd like it to be so, everyone doesn't have vitriol for the prequels. Why can't people understand this?

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I never cared for the prequels but hey, that just means I don't want to watch them. It's fine if others like them... ultimately we should all just be glad that episode 7 looks to be promising for fans old and young alike. I am stoked

Well, depending on my mood, the prequels can be entertaining even if they are nowhere near the level of the original trilogy.

However, I agree, this movie is going to be massive. I expect this to do much bigger numbers than even The Phantom Menace. I mean, come on, it's an actual SEQUEL to what happened in Return of the Jedi. (Well, even if it is clearly establishing new characters and will take things forward in another direction as well). The fact that it's a continuation... that alone will help it to do really well.

I honestly didn't expect a reaction like this to Ep VII. Yeah, I know it's still Star Wars, but I thought its time was over. With all the hate and bile directed towards the prequels & the SEs I didn't think that the older generations had it in them to actually enjoy Star Wars any more, and I didn't think the kids raised on Clone Wars would care all that much either. There are even certain blowhards who weren't going to see it because it wasn't made by Lucas! (Yes, really.)

But this new trailer seems to have awakened that pure love of Star Wars in the older folks, it's got non-fans & casuals interested due to the hype, and has captured the attention of the young 'uns too. I'll make my prediction now: I can see Ep VII toppling Avatar as the all-time worldwide box office king. It'd be fitting if a new Star Wars movie achieved what Lucas' original did nearly 40 years ago.

I'll agree with this. I think it will certainly out gross The Avengers AoU and be the biggest money maker of 2015.

Ever since the TFA second teaser hit, I've looked at the Avengers AoU kind of like a red-headed stepchild.

I think that would be wonderful, if bittersweet, after what George achieved with the originals, and The Phantom Menace's great haul, I'm sure people will gloat if it tops the all-time box-office, and say "they finally did Star Wars right! all they needed was less Lucas ...", instead of it reflecting positively on the wonderful world he built for us. I have a feeling all the positive will be considered so, because George didn't have his hand in, and I think that will be sad.

If the trailer numbers are anything to go on, then The Force Awakens is going to be a massive hit.

It really is baffling, but then again: It's STAR WARS

I guess it's so mutligenerational now, with the UOT, the SE OT, the PT, TCW, Rebels, comics, etc..
It's all going to culminate in this film.

I would love to see it topple Avatar. Time will tell.

The numbers are certainly most impressive thus far.

Pop culture (and "geek culture") are completely different now than in 1999. This movie has much more awareness and a much bigger audience than tPM did. This movie also has the marketing might of Disney behind it, as well as all their knowledge marketing the Marvel flicks.

Eps 7 will crush Avengers AoU, and it will crush Episode 1.

I don't know about "crushing" AoU, but it will probably be comparable to slightly better.
